    Flour Mill For Crushing Grain

I only took photos on my phone so not the best, heres the clearest closeup i have: Knocking out a extract + spec grains brew in a few days to tide me over till my new ag rig is ready. Will see how it goes with that before I do a full ag batch.

    Flour Mill For Crushing Grain

Ok the old mans mill arrived, ducked over today and ran some grain through, all i had on hand was carapils so chucked in a handful and set it to its coarsest setting. Blasted it out a second later: Looks pretty good to me? Certainly not flour. Opinions? Also tried some freshly baked...

    Flour Mill For Crushing Grain

Yeah thats what i was thinking! He picks it up today, will try and run some grain through it this weekend. It does say the milling stones are "infinitely adjustable", so if it wont give me a coarse crush, i will try using it to break the space time continuum instead.

    Flour Mill For Crushing Grain

My old man just ordered one of these flour mills: http://www.skippygrainmills.com.au/electric/billy100.htm Wondering if anyone has ever used one for grinding grain for brewing? Havent invested in a mill yet, and if i can get away with using this it will save me ordering pre crushed grain...

Converting A Commercial Beer Keg For Biab?

Nope, no good for BIAB, you need a special type of metal for BIAB so the bag doesnt explode. Just put them in a box and post them to me and i will take care of them for you. Doesnt matter what style of brewing you are doing, the fact you are boiling wort in some way doesnt change :)

    Kits - Hopped Vs Unhopped

Yep when doing full extract i usually boil around 5 litres of 1040 wort. Dissolve the rest at flameout. If doing a hoppier style, no need to boil for 60 mins either. Look up 10 minute apa's, my favourite extract brew. One large hop addition at 10 mins, you can knock em out really fast. I often...

    Brewing Pot For Ag

Is the bayou a good quality pot? Was considering getting one of these jobbies from ebay: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/350628173019?ss...984.m1423.l2649 works out to $200 delivered, but nervous about spending my hard earned on it. I got in touch with someone who had bought one and left feedback...

    More Ebay Stock Pots

Pretty mixed feedback for that sellers pots, anyone end up buying one? Anyone tried any of the current stockpot offerings on ebay? My budget is around $150, could stretch to 200. Was going to get one from craftbrewer but they are out of stock. Specifically ...

    Brewers With Solar Power

I am on stand alone solar, my only advice would be to use a keezer, they are better insulated and hence use much less power. My keezer with room for 6 kegs plus the compressor hump space for storage, set at 5 degrees, uses between .2 and .4 kwh a day.

    Your Brewing And Your Children

I've got a 5 year old son and 1 year old daughter. My son gets upset if I have a brew day without him. I give him his own little bit of grain and hops and he has a great time making beer. The only hard part is he puts the resulting goop in a bottle in the fridge and proudly presents it to me a...

    RecipeDB - DrSmurto's Golden Ale

What's your pre boil volume set to? What does it say the OG will be? That is more relevant than the pre boil gravity. Edit: if it's saying 3.3% Abv then it's definetly coming in low, those grains are all fine, i use the same when using weyerman malts in beer alchemy. You can adjust the OG and...

First Extract Brew, Any Simple Suggestions?

I've just put down an extract "Golden Cascade Lager". Based on Dr's Golden Ale, but with Briess Pilsen light DME, Bavarian Wheat DME,munich LME and caramunich1. Subbed in cascade for amarillo, doubled the flameout addition, and fermenting with S-189 @ 12 degrees. If time is really an issue, try...

Minimum Pot Size For Extract/biab Brewing?

You can get 20ishkg sacks of the Bintani malt extract for around $110 - $120. Craftbrewer and Marks Home Brew both stock them, not sure on any in Sydney. Its ok, and as good as the coopers or stuff most LHBS's pack themselves, def need to add some dex in though as it tends to finish a little...

    Summit

Once mine arrives i think I'll do a few 1 litre test runs with ldme. Do a 60 minute only, 20 minute only, 5 minute only, and a 60/20/5 addition one. Ferment them in 2 litre soft drink bottles with Us05, bottle in a longneck and have a tasting session a few weeks later. Good excuse for a...

    Summit

Reading on US forums results are really mixed, people making awesome beer with it one batch and onion beer the next. Really strange. Some people suggest using it only for bittering and/or aroma stops any onion flavour, the onion also seems to fade with time if you get it. I'll still crank out...

    Summit

I was thinking of doing a 10 min apa with it, just found a post from someone who did it allready.... http://www.aussiehomebrewer.com/forum/inde...showtopic=48791 The thought of garlic/onion is putting me off it completely!

First Extract Beer, Not Settling After 10 Days In The Bottle.

What was the recipe? Did you crash chill? Large late additions of hops can lead to cloudiness. But i have found even a 10min apa will clear up after 6 weeks in the keg at fridge temp. Once its carbed store it in the fridge and it will clear up in time if it bothers you.
