Saving an off flavour beer ....FYI

Update: the salvage job undertaken on my Keg has improved the beer somewhat. By no means an epic win, but I have just done a pint of the beer and could almost go another. The last pint before the repair job ended up in the sink. Not great beer, but will do until I keg something better...

Foam Pouring from one new tap

I have to say Adrian, pretty useful / constructive post first up. :icon_cheers: Cheers, D80

Foam Pouring from one new tap

Same pressure. All my kegs are carbonated at kegerator serving pressure. Regs are set the same for portable and kegerator (with 3-4m @4mm ID line). Have flow control tap on the party keg, but even without (with the old basic tap), provided tap is cold. Pour is absolutely fine. Cheers, D80

Foam Pouring from one new tap

Have you tried a MFL Tap Shank Adaptor to hook a tap up directly to the out post? I have one on my party keg setup. Great piece of kit. That would rule out the line altogether. Cheers, D80

    Need help troubleshooting this keg

Welly, if you pull out the dip tube and posts etc, take photos of them before you change anything. Others here can have a look and might spot something amiss, missing o-ring or similar as an example. If all else fails get your mates around and Siphon direct out of the keg. Big weekend! B)...

    Need help troubleshooting this keg

Charge Keg with gas. Remove beer disconnect. take keg outside somewhere Depress beer out post poppet with a screwdriver. If it sprays like the dockers in front of goal, should be an issue outside of the keg. If not, issue is in keg and you will know where to look. You have got your disconnects...

Nearly everyone here could lift an esky full of Ice and Beer, but mention wet grain and everyone seems to go to water! Biceps FTW! Cheers, D80

Excess Heat can extract Tannins: From Palmers Book - What is Sparging? Palmer Chap 17 Sparging is the rinsing of the grain bed to extract as much of the sugars from the grain as possible without extracting mouth-puckering tannins from the grain husks. Typically, 1.5 times as much water is used...

    CO2 cylinders

Rocker, do yourself a favor and up the temp! You put all this effort in to craft a delicious beer, then you don't actually get to taste it in all its glory! Fair enough for Landscaping / Lawnmower beers. Smash them down and don't taste them hardly anyway. Ales at 0 degrees? ARGH! Cheers, D80

    BIAB newbie

Some good info in there smcc3573 but this is BS. There is no reason not to squeeze. Also with the last batch Biab i overshot gravity by 11%, recipe was @70% BHE and i got 81%. i have now setlled on a method that give 74/75%BHE, double batches @ 10kg grain bill. Only thing squeezing seems to...

Kegerator - drilling hole in side for co2 line

Tiny hole through outer skin then poke something like a nail through and check for resistance? Others make a paste of something up that evaporates off the fridge which is running hard. The coolant lines are hottest so evaps faster above them. Do a search on here i have seen some good posts...

Blackrock Nut Brown Ale - yeast mix bottom of fermentor

Sounds pretty right to me. I don't brew kits anymore but all of my current beers look like this until I Cold crash them and the trub packs down. Means I have to draw two samples to check SG. The first to get the gunk out of the tap, then the second is normally clear enough to take the reading...

    Cleaning up after an infection

Hey, kind of related. can you buy new rubber washer for these taps? I have a bucket of taps with the rubber disintegrated. Seems dumb to keep buying new taps just to get a new washer! Long shot, anyone got a part number for them or equiv? I agree with cleaning out the taps though! Make a habit...

    BIAB Sweetness

Does it taste like Honey? My last beer had that. Currently it is in the shed at shed temp, with a little fresh malt and a pack of fresh yeast attacking it. Hopefully that saves its bacon. F*cking diacetyl. But at least I know why it happened. Mine was a massive underpitch. I believe it was...

help! oh man not enough yeast on hand, unless...

Oh I read it as, the US05 + Lager yeast on top. nvm. Your calcs might be spot on saying you need 4 packs (Fermentis agree with you I think). But experience tells me and many others on here, the 3 packs will **** it in. Cheers, D80

Yeast is in Date right? Also: Not sure I would be adding lager yeast @ 20 degrees. All sorts of funky **** might happen. Cheers D80
