Diluting hop flavour in a beer - fixing over hopped beer

TrustyRusty, if it is too bitter when cold, drink it warmer, and pour it with a decent head and let it settle. Won't 'fix' it but it will taste different. (not intending to start a war over what temp ppl should drink their beer at, but this will take the edge of it). Cheers, D80

    Sparkling ale lookalike

Too early to call it at 6 days. Higher alc beers can be harsh first up. Sure it will mellow and you will be calling it warming later on rather than harsh.

    Hitting the wall

Azztech, get a FWK (any pale ale) and ferment it under temp control with Nottingham yeast, 18-20 degrees. Leave it for 10 days, raise to 22 for 4 days, then step down to 1 degrees over the next couple of days and then hold there for 3 days. Package and carbonate beer. Enjoy after appropriate...

    Kegerator serving temp

4 degrees here. For ales bang on. Yep does increase a tad in glass (not a bad thing). If it warms too fast, pour a bigger glass! -1, you ain't Cold Crashing it! Cheers, D80 Edit: Each to there own though.

    Grow lights

You won't get far with leds. I had a proper grow light with ballast for reasons not going into here. They are seriously like mobile suns. They pump out the light, add warmth and don't forget the sunscreen. I think the hops would really take to them. Anyone doing hydro hops these days?

Newbie - looking for a good kit to start out

I got into Homebrewing to brew Carlsberg knock offs. Haven't left the UK beers yet (4 years). I have just branched out and had a go at a proper APA (first with all american hops). Both curious and afraid to taste it, been in keg fridge for about 6 weeks now. What if i like it? Lol I really...

Newbie - looking for a good kit to start out

Not sure how to help with the carlton, hahn dry taste mate. I have to try pretty hard to make beer that bad these days! (just j/ks) Each to their own. I don't mind a sneaky VB now and then (since they went back to 4.9 version). Any basic kit will get you started, if i had my time again i would...

    iKegger - Growlers and Kegs

Yob, you are in a small window, calm before the next storm, You have about 4-6 weeks before it goes tits up again. Interested to see what kind of price buying in bulk can bring, for the same reason kegging / bottling the last couple of litres. Though, i have been franken-kegging recently with...

Buying first one vessel BIAB setup

I dove in for an 80L pot, gas and over the side electric element. My beer supply is two cubes to the good and I get two per brewday. Water heat with electric, ramp to boil with both, then control and boil with gas. Will get 10 cubes out of a 8.5kg bottle this way. Loving it. Cheers D80

Kit and Kilo Real Ale low in alcohol. Any ideas?

Notto is my go to yeast when it simply has to work, because it simply does work. Works well to 22, works down as low as 15-16 too! Very neutral. S04 is stubborn, i would pitch two packs of it if you use it again. Pretty f*cking lazy most of the time! Cheers, D80

Please Explain.. 50% loss to evaporation

I don't know about others here, but I track my boil off with a stainless steel ruler. I know how many mm I should start at (depth, pre boil) and I control my burner + element to arrive at just above final depth during the 60 mins. Works surprisingly well. Though I will add, I have a double...

    Gas and beer lines splitting

I use the Keg King push fit fittings for Beer lines on my kegerator. I was skeptical at first but they are going very well thus far. Also the line used is some WestWay line from Brewmart in Perth. It is 8mm OD / 4mm ID. It is actually very malleable when warmed up and they are able to get it...

Seeking compensation for exploding beer bottle

Not a good thing to happen, the company that brewed the batch could be in some strife indeed. Very dangerous scenario. <Edit 2:> watched the video. Seems to have cleared up the story for me.
