    Braumeister - Tips & Tricks

Yes I did pretty much what you are describing. I did this with my 50L. After placing the top screen and getting it going I added more water until it came up to almost the top of the malt pipe. During pump rests the total fluid level would be over the top of the malt pipe. I still sparged though...

    Hops are up. What now?

In the past I have often had some bines poke their heads up early but then they sit there and don't do anything. Early emergence may not mean anything significant; leave them be. Your Goldings are likely to be a dwarf variety.

    Braumeister - Tips & Tricks

This is how I do it. I have a built a sturdy big table that the BM is on, that I can stand on to lift the malt pipe, it is not ideal (when I swing the malt pipe down off the tabel) but it works, for now... I really should do something with a pulley/gantry.

    Dog keeps digging up hops

I tried pissing on things in the backyard to discourage a hunting dog from certain areas. He thought it was a pissing contest. Unlike us, they can pretty much pee when they want to rather than when they need to. If you were going to piss on the hound, I would think that you should make sure that...

1st Brew On Braumeister - Pics

I have a 50 and reckon I am way overdue to do this. I had a situation in which I must have loosened the rod (perhaps due to over tightening the top wingnut and thence needing some force on the rod to loosen it) because it leaked through the base by the rod nut. I tightened the rod nut and reckon...

1st Brew On Braumeister - Pics

I think I had 70L in mine the other day, no problems. The boils are not massively foaming monsters anyway. Spediel say it will make 50L of finished beer. Working backwards: This means it would be 50L of beer + loss to yeast in the fermenter so maybe 52 or 53L into the fermenter to yield 50L of...

    Duda plate chiller

Hops and/or sanitary issues. Malt forward English (or other) beer with just a bittering addition - no chill to your hearts content. Hop forward beer with late hops, chill the wort. How you chill it or what other methods you use do not need to be a plate chiller but no chilling (solely) is not...

    Duda plate chiller

Yes. If you were to hold the wort in the chiller and the cooling water in the chiller, they would reach an equilibrium temperature. Neither are really held in the chiller as both are flowing through it. Perhaps if it was an exceptionally long chiller then they could reach an equilibrium...

    Duda plate chiller

Done. Argon's method for instance. Here is a simplified bastardisation: Bittering hops in wort only. Slow chill in the fridge. Dump chilled wort into fermenter. Do a mini boil with part of it for 15/20 minutes or shorter. Dump the mini-boil through a strainer into the fermenter. This rapidly...

    Duda plate chiller

So there are heaps of ways to go about plumbing a plate chiller, this is just one way. This one I had 1/2" FPT all round. On the wort inlet you can see a 1/2" male threaded barb fitting. On the wort outlet a 1/2" male-male nipple, 1/2" t piece, 1/2" threaded thermo with 2 or 3" probe, to...

    tv show bargain hunt/beer engine

Have a look at ebay.co.uk mate. Single engines quite often go for 20 pounds but unfortunately those ones are usually pick up only. If you can get them to post it, it will be about 80 quid for a single engine though... I'd hate to imagine the postage for a double.

    VB Clone

I too tried to clone a big mac but the sample culture just went mouldy instead of generating a new burger, by that stage the donor burger had gone mouldy too. I don't know what went wrong; I wrapped the sample in Kleenex tissues but I suppose there is more to cloning than tissue culture. I have...

    Duda plate chiller

Nice one Jeddog, since your questions I have been pondering my equipment some more. This thread tipped me over the edge. I too have decided to upgrade my chiller and dropped the hammer on the B3-23a 40 plate jobyy with garden hose fittings on the water side (we'll see what size those are when it...
