    Cheap Digital 'thrumometer'

I might get one for the shower. Or for something else. dreamboat

    Newbie Questions

I would try not to bottle it, but you should be okay. Always worth a try to (when priming or transferring to secondary) to get a piece for a sniff and a taste to see what you might be in for. dreamboat

Yet Another Brew Stand Design Thread

Prof Pils.... Looking at the pictures you posted, I see one which shows a s/s vessel with a copper coil it in with water pouring in from the top. If that is your boiler, and your planned method of transferring your sparge liquor to it, you might want a rethink. dreamboat

That black stuff is probably Knob-rot. Hopefully not Galloping Knob-rot or you are in all sorts of trouble! Or it could be lumps of ginger which have oxidised. dreamboat

    Temperature Controllers

I will make an enquiry.... but, for mash and fridge control, I think we are already on the right track. dreamboat

    Correct Sg Temperature

I would think that all this experiment will tell you is the density of the oil (sg). Theoretically, of course, given enough time for the hydrometer to sink to the equilibrium level, particularly in the thick sample... and there may be some doubt as to whether that level has been reached...

    Correct Sg Temperature

Not saying that you are wrong on this... but it makes no sense to me at all. Unless the glass expands in some way due to a pressure increase inside the hydrometer, which moves the scale... which would have to be a very minor effect if at all. The air can't go anywhere, so the mass can't...

    Final Gravity

You may get a bit lower than that... but, with that kilo of wheat malt in there, I would think it has pretty much run its race. Leave it for a day or two, check again, then bottle if it is still the same. dreamboat

    Temperature Controllers

Don't need a switch or anything like that.... You can just press a few buttons to change the system from a cooling to a heating cycle. The term you are looking for is demurrage - can be quite expensive I understand.... ;) dreamboat

    Newbie Questions

I would say that your ferment is sluggish, far slower than i would expect, but maybe your yeast has been abused before you got it.... I am sure that most homebrew stores could easily kill three quarters of your yeast and not know about it. At least it is on the right track. I didn't see your OG...

    John Guest Help

It will be very easy to get some sort of adaptor made.... even if you put it right at your disconnect ti will still do the job. But, obviously the most important thing would be to get the lines long enough in the first place. Take your new acquisitions for a drive down to Tony Powell Hose...

    Newbie Questions

How much yeast did you pitch, and from what source? What was the pitching temperature? How big is your batch? What was you OG? What is on the brew, what was the mash temp/rest temp? That will give us something to work from anyhow..... But you are still unlikely to get an answer like 5...

    What Would You Do?

I am pleased you brewed with it Merc.... the brew will be fine, and it gives you a good story to tell people as they are enjoying sampling your beers.... particularly those celebrity types ;) dreamboat
