    Secondary Fermentation And Airlock

The carbonation does not happen in the fermenter. You will either add sugar, carbonation drops or bulk prime when you bottle. Once you cap the bottles the bottle fermentation will occur, as long as your bottles are not kept too cold. You need to wait until the fermentation is complete, i.e...

Accidentally Froze A Home Brew. What Will Happen?

Thanks for the replies, they're all very encouraging! I've still got tons of that batch of IPA left so I'll try and forget about it and drink the rest first. I might label it differently so that I don't lose track of which one it is and then I'll be able to test out all your theories. I was...

Accidentally Froze A Home Brew. What Will Happen?

Last night I had a few stubbies of my latest IPA that I wanted to cool down fast for drinking. So I popped them in the freezer. Drank 3 out of the 4 but forgot about the last one. This morning I remembered it was in there and was expecting to find an exploded beer in the freezer. When I checked...

Coles And Bi-lo Delete Home Brew

Jivesucka, I recently did a toucan with 1 x Farmland Lager + 1 x Farmland Draught. It's been in the bottle for four weeks now. I've tried a couple and they taste terrible so far. The reason I attempted this was because I had previously gone to the shops to make the cheapest toucan I could and...

Get Your Kids Started On The Right Track

Yeah, massively nerdy and massively awesome. I bought some miracle berry tablets from Think Geek once. They're meant to make everything bitter taste sweet. For example, take a tablet then beer will taste sweet like lemonade. They didn't work for us for some reason though..... Maybe you need the...

Cheers YB. Sounds good. Cascade hops with a Cascade kit, sounds like they were made for each other.....

    Bottle Preparation

I'm the same as you roosie, I store my brews in a dark cupboard in my garage which sees no light. I'd also been warned about the dangers of using non-brown bottles and lightstrike so I've always used brown bottles only. However, lately I've gotten into the habit of bottling at least one bottle...

    Yay!

For my birthday last Saturday my girlfriend gave me two Cascade kits, the Pale Ale and the Chocolate Mahogany Porter. Both of these cans to my surprise are ring-pulls. So it looks like Cascade beat everyone to the punch. Now I've not heard great things about the Cascade kits but the Porter one...

    First Time Finings

This is the gelatine that I use for finings. It does smell a little bit when you mix it with warm water but it does not impart any flavours into the beer. I just buy it from my local Coles. And yeah, I wouldn't be worried about what's in it because you will have already consumed several animals...

    World Cup 2010 Tipping Competition

Manticle, you don't need to answer truthfully. I heard a bloke on the radio the other day who gets annoyed with the amount of information asked of him on the interweb and that's why he's a 94 year old woman on Facebook! On the other hand I would be scared of tipping against me too.....

    First Time Finings

Yeah, no problems there. When making up finings using gelatine it does have a reasonably rank odour. It is an animal by-product made from bones and skin and stuff so no surprises that it smells a little funky. Should work fine though. It does for me!
