    Ashnan²

Bloody hell Nathan, it's got more switches and wires than my meter box! The most technical looking bit of my kit is the bayonet fitting into the natural gas outlet on the wall. Very impressive looking. Any other ideas? Can you get it to mow your lawns? Well done! Scott

    Uhm..

Might be called Good Friday but geez it can be boring....... Probably explains why I have time to post on AHB for the first time in a looooong time. Four days off; better make the most of it. Today - a Simcoe based PA Tomorrow - catching up on things around the house. Sunday - Another brew...

    Fridge Is Too Small!

Nick is correct. The freezer is what cools the fridge. Some people have bent / flattened out the freezer to give more room but as Nick said, it is risky. If it goes wrong you may end up with a very expensive, insulated cupboard.

    Fridge Is Too Small!

Iron, If you built up the floor of the fridge to the height of the compressor hump you would be able to push the fermenter further back. Just not sure there will be enough height in the fridge. Bit hard to tell from the photo.

    Looking For A Recipe

stef, Like Rooting Kings said, I'd use something else for bittering. Simcoe or even Pride of Ringwood if you've got some. As for hop schedule, a mix of Cascade, Amarillo, Simcoe, Nelson Sauvin or Galaxy. Three of these will give heaps of fruit. Perhaps - PoR - 60 mins Galaxy - 10 mins Simcoe...

    Fermentation Issues

Sean, Some people recommend / prefer to use 2 packets (ie. 23g) when making a lager. Thanks for posting the recipe. I haven't calculated it but your OG of 1.058 seems a little high for 5 kg of grain at, I'm assuming, around 22-23ltrs? Definately worth checking your hydrometer. Scott

    Kegging Setups

That's the one. Thanks mate. Malted, Don't worry, I won't call you a tool. Not out loud anyway. :D You're right though about kegging being frustrating. Its all a bit confusing when you first set it up. I had all sorts of problems when I started. But, once you sort it out, there's nothing...

    Kegging Setups

Malted, If the disconnect didn't fit the post properly then you would have beer leaking out. Air can't 'leak' into the beer line. The bubbles you are getting in the line is Co2 coming out of the beer. Your beer is either over or under carbonated. There is a thread called 'Balancing your...

    Fermentation Issues

Sean, Have you checked the accuracy of your hydrometer? Also re the 'correct' way to pitch dry yeast;- -I've rehydrated, -sprinkled on surface and left alone, -sprinkled on surface and stirred in, and done all of these things with and without aerating and I've never seen any real noticable...

I also get a bit of a metallic taste. Certainly not overpowering but enough to be off putting. Enjoyed it, but probably wouldn't buy again. Scott

    Beginners Hops

Hi Chookers, I've used Summer Saaz once. It was used for flavour and aroma with Pride of Ringwood for bittering in an AG beer. My notes describe a flavour of 'mild citrus' and 'no hop aroma'. My memory, was of being 'underwhelmed'. :( Galaxy will give you far more fruit. Scott

First Ag Brew And Feedback On Yeast Starter Process

Hi Mark Glad it all went well. Lotsa fun, hey. Re the yeast. Ive just recently started using liquid yeasts again after several years of using dried only. Just been lazy and liked the convenience of dried. Anyway, I used a similar method to you. I added my smack pack, Wyeast 3068 as it...
