...and if you're doing a longer mash you could always add a little hot water part way through if you want to maintain a precise temperature. cheers reg

A bargain indeed Doc - looks like a great setup. Couple of replies from rec.crafts.brewing regarding manifold holes and slits. http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&....com%26rnum%3D1 cheers reg

    Mash Ph

I purchased citric acid from the supermarket - should be around the cake ingredients section. I also purchased the chalk from the supermarket - on the label it said non-toxic (sticks of blackboard chalk). I don't know if this is the same as food-grade - hum. If anyone knows a specific...

    ESB Aussie Draught Kit (3KG)

I think it's bizarre that HBS stores keep hops on the shelf. Cold storage or better still freezer storage should be the norm. I live in Sydney and have never been to Grumpy's but if you're in Adelaide it's certainly worth a trip to have a look. Those brewiser foil packs are also pretty...

    Mash Ph

You may have already looked at this source - in case you haven't, there's been a lot of discussion about modifying mash ph on the aust. craftbrewing list. I use dark grains for lowering ph. I also use citric acid (as I've found i much easier to obtain than food-grade phosphoric). Last year I...

    ESB Aussie Draught Kit (3KG)

I've not yet tried pride of ringwood yet, though I've read that it adds a lovely aroma. I dryhop using pellets or plugs - I add them directly to the secondary. I've also read of someone adding hop flowers to each bottle for a super aroma. cheers reg

These pictures are terrific. Can you send me a parts listing for your bulkhead replacement/tap setup? I've no idea about the slots/holes question, so I just posted a question to rec.crafts.brewing - hopefully we'll get some replies. Keep us updated on how you go - it looks like a great setup...

    Foul tastes

Al Korzonas in "Homebrewing Vol 1" writes about metallic flavours "High iron or other metal content in the water is a common source of metallic flavour - get a water analysis and check the iron content" "The use of mild steel kittles, fermenters or utensils can give the beer a metallic taste...

    Hot as blazes

I'm in Sydney and it's hot here. I have family in the Hunter Valley and it's even hotter. How are people coping with the heat around the country? I'm almost thinking that I just may not brew this weekend if the heat keeps up. cheers reg

    This weekend's recipe

This week I'll be brewing a porter and have decided on Barry's recipe (though I have no brown malt - perhaps a trek to the brew store) http://www.aussiehomebrewer.com/forum/inde...&t=138&hl=stout Anyone else brewing this weekend? The stout I brewed last weekend is as black as pitch and is...

    Anyone else awake?

I don't know why but I woke up at 4:30 this morning and without giving it a second thought - got out of bed and started brewing. There's a stockpot full of grain and dark liquor on the stove, the birds are singing, the sun's up and it's looking like a pretty good day. cheers reg
