    Safale And Rehydration

This nottingham yeast is pretty entertaining - looks like a relief map of a barren mountain range. cheers reg

Malt Shovel About To Hit The Homebrew Market

If I tried a kit and thought it worth the price, I'd pay it. It's a very subjective sort of thing and ties in with all the various reasons why people brew and why they brew the way they do using the sort of ingredients they choose. cheers reg

Malt Shovel About To Hit The Homebrew Market

As for 11.5 kits - they maybe onto a winner - I started out brewing 20 litre batches and now brew half sized. cheers reg

Malt Shovel About To Hit The Homebrew Market

That's interesting about the Toohey's concentrate - I wonder what it will taste like. It's probably not fair to compare but I never found that the Coopers ale concentrate tasted like Coopers sparkling ale (at least not with the recommended extract + 1kg sugar - not that they ever claimed that...

Malt Shovel About To Hit The Homebrew Market

Also - are the kits to be marketed through homebrew stores, supermarkets or both? cheers reg

Malt Shovel About To Hit The Homebrew Market

Is this summary correct? These are 1.7kg extract kits created in New Zealand, shipped to Australia and marketed under the James Squire brand. They are not a combination of generic malt extract + hop extract - they start out as a professionally brewed all-grain wort - ( ie malted barley/wheat...

    Favorite beer styles

Couple of Belgians my sister brought back from a recent trip were pretty delicious - Charles Quint Keizer Karel, and Barbar Blonde. cheers reg

Malt Shovel About To Hit The Homebrew Market

How far are they condensed Pete? - ie are they more like an ESB fresh wort kit - or like a container of extract? cheers reg

Malt Shovel About To Hit The Homebrew Market

+ are they supplied with yeast? - their own yeast or other? cheers reg

Malt Shovel About To Hit The Homebrew Market

What's the makeup of these kits - extract / extract + specialty / grain, hops / fresh wort? cheers reg

    Favourite brew so far

It's been a while and I didn't keep a copy of changes - however I probably used Northern Brewer for bittering - should have made a note. Yeast could have been safale. cheers reg

    Safale And Rehydration

I usually rehydrate dried yeast prior to pitching - in fact I hadn't pitched non-rehydrated dried yeast for quite a while. Anyway just recently I bunged in a sachet of safale - directly to the wort. I've never previously had any problems with this yeast but this time it just didn't take off -...

    Favourite brew so far

It's the John Palmer Tittabawasee Brown Ale recipe - same as on the website - I made the grain version. It was a lovely brew. cheers reg

    Horizon Bittering

Not wrong at all Moray - fine as an aroma hop. cheers reg

Cask Ale And Coleman Water Containers

Yes - from what I've read - these devices are common in the UK cheers reg

Cask Ale And Coleman Water Containers

No - I don't have a digital camera - got my 2.5 gallon water container from a local camping store. Apparently these sorts of containers are very common in the UK - something like a sort of a beer cask (along the lines of a wine cask - though a tougher container to deal with the carbonation)...

Easter Show And The Carlton Academy

I don't know if they're on any particular dates - I was there today (Monday) and there were demonstrations each hour. cheers reg

    Horizon Bittering

I've purchased Horizon pellets from ESB Peakhurst and a friend has purchased from GrainAndGrape in Victoria. I've used Horizon for bittering in English ales and lagers. Horizon is very smooth and enables high hopping without harshness (or at least without the harsh flavour I've noticed...

Cask Ale And Coleman Water Containers

I was reading about people bulk carbonating english style ales in polypins and have given it a go using a Coleman 2.5 gallon water container. If it doesn't explode or split I hope to be able to tap a lovely creamy ale from what is essentially a thick plastic bag with a tap. cheers reg

    Horizon Bittering

Anyone using horizon pellets? I've been using them quite a bit lately - very smooth bittering - just compared a horizon bittered ale to a super alpha and the horizon is as smooth as blazes. cheers reg
