    O2 Bottles

The Tradflame bottle has the equivalent of 110L, which should weigh about 140g given oxygen is 754L/kg. Is that right?

    O2 Bottles

How do these compare in capacity to the Tradeflame bottles? By my calcs, as they don't give the same units of capacity, the tradflame has a net weight of about 140g compared to the Bernzomatic at 40g. Thats 3.5x more gas for less than twice the price.

Storing stainless air stone in ethanol?

I just boil mine for a while and then spray with starsan before each use. After use I rinse it off in water while blowing 02 through it. and then spray it with starsan.

Should I add pick up tube to my brew pot ?

4L of losses would give me nightmares, especially around 50L total volume. I'd recommend a lauter helix. They do a great job of getting all the sweet wort out of your kettle while delivering clear runoff till the end. This was a 40L batch of RIPA. Nothing left in there but cold break and hops.

    DIY Kegmenter

I don't think the hole needs to be that precise. The seals on corny lids are pretty fat and they sit a fair way out from the edge of the opening so there is a fair bit of tolerance there to play with. I would recommend erring on the smaller side when first cutting the hole. Its easy to grind a...

SHould I buy a 100L Pilot Brewery From China?

Love your honest write ups mate. Brewing is always an adventure, and a rollercoaster of lessons and achievements. Some would ague that the best school is the one of hard knocks so keep up the hard work and it will pay off. Re pressure fermentation, are you using an adjustable spunding valve? I...

    Shopping list for new starter?

Mine was soiled after nearly a year even though I cleaned and sanitized it before and after every batch. I think the idea is you turn a 50L keg upside down and cut a hole for a corny lid int he bottom. That then becomes the top of the fermenter. You remove the original spear from inside and...

    KegLand Questions and Answers

Its for home brewing. My guess is its a small canning machine similar to the Canimal machines that can seal one can at a time and is manually loaded. Instead of putting a bottle in a capper and sealing the bottle you put a filled can in the canning machine, place a lid on top and the machine...

    New Bunnings "fermenter" Style Containers

I realise this is 4 years too late but for the benefit of others, I would put money on it being the vinyl tubing coming into contact with hot wort that was your problem. PVC is not heat resistant. Always use silicone tubing far transfering hot liquids.

    Shopping list for new starter?

Speaking from experience, the bunnings water contains make ***** fermenters. They have rough seems on the inside which harbour bacteria that you don't want in your beer. If you're thinking of going down that path, I would reconsider it. If I were to start again I would get a stainless fermenter...

    GUTEN

They have 2 different ones, both I think the cheaper one is about 25% sodium percarbonate and the more expensive one is about 33%. I use it because its easy to get and we use it in the washing machine too.

    GUTEN

For the first clean I put about 5L of water in it and half a cap of coles brand laundry booster. Heated it to 60C and ran thrugh the pump for abotu 10mins. while it was warming I gave it a scrub on the inside with a sponge. I drained into a bucket out the tap, then rinsed with some fresh water...

    Self Chilling SS Fermenter

One issue would be support. If something goes wrong with it you may be on your own. It would always be repairable I would say but could get expensive. Look pretty sweet though. I would love something like that.

    Lauter Helix.

I don't really bother with a 'whirlpool' as such. I do late additions and give the pot a stir for a minute or two and then let it steep for 10-15mins. Works ok.

    Show us your brewrig

Could you just spin the bench around so the PIDs are pointing towards the darker shed? Might make them easier to read. Really nice setup by the way.

    Lauter Helix.

When using the immersion chiller, are you flowing water through the chiller really slowly? They are a lot more efficient when the flow is slow.

    Lauter Helix.

I find the helix doesn't work well if it has no tighter bends in it. It really needs to have a T connection and be be larger than the inner circumference of the kettle so it has to snake towards the centre of the pot in a kind of 'S' shape. When I first got a helix it came with an elbow...

    GUTEN

Just ordered a 50L Guten from Brewmart. Looking forward to doing a double batch to ferment in my 50L kegmenter. Looks like I have a lot of learning to do on this unit, I have been using a DIY single vessel electric setup which will now be relegated to sparge water heater. Is it possible to hook...

    Label removal

Acetone is available in the hardware store, or supermarket as nail polish remover. It's water soluble so you can dilute it to soak.

Just how DO you get that juicy IPA taste and aroma?

Sounds like a fermentation issue to me. If you're temp controlling your fermentation then bump the temp up to around 20c for a few days once you hit FG. It will help the yeast clean up the diacetyl quicker.
