I've seen some Pantera footage from Russia. Where the security are carrying rubber batons and belting the crowd when they try to mosh! The security looks like military from memory! I think it was from early 90's, so only just post USSR. Crazy Russians!

As I don't have the same thermometer I can't comment on whether its water/steam proof. I'm sure you'll find that one out soon enough

:blink: So you get a correct reading. Same reason you would calibrate scales.

Longer boil will help darken the wort. Different way of bittering maybe? Using less of a particular hop but boiling it for longer to acheive the same IBU's?

If it has a variable of +/-1C, won't that be problem with your mashing?

Steve, Fair enough, I've always sparged around 78-80ish as a matter of course and never really contemplated the effects of a higher temp sparge, which there looks like there is none of. DC82 - I take it you're pouring out of the esky, through a strainer into your kettle? Do yourself a favour...

Re: Sparge temp, is tannin extraction related to purely the over rinse of grain? Or does the water temp play a part?
