No More "all Grain Or Extract"

Cut the top off and use it as a kettle! Works a treat. You can either put a tap in it, or after cooling the wort, siphon it into the fermenter

Is Chardonnay Served At Room Temperature?

Have you heard of many other people with this problem? I just thought the mum in-law was a rare, unique type case. Maybe something to do with the soil, which the vines get all there nutrients etc from?

Is Chardonnay Served At Room Temperature?

Dave, My mother in-law gets asthma from wine too. Her asthma is set off by all Hunter Valley wines  The temp doesn't effect it one way or the other though. I like the lighter, fruitier whites (verdelho/semillon etc) on the colder side (4-5C) and like the sauvignon...

Favourite Song To End A Big Night....

Cog - Doors (Now and then it feels like my life is going nowhere) it's nice and progressive, has it heavy/powerful moments then its softer stages which ease you into your drunk comatose sleep. "In time I will change, I will" or Cog - Naming the Elephant "So long I've been waiting, slipping...

    All Grain Or Extract

The Hills Brewers Guild are doing a brew where we are split into three groups (AG, Extract & K&K) and will all be brewing the same brew. I think the AG recipe was the original then the extract and K&K recipes were based off that to make them all as close as possible for the style. I think the...

    Dry Hopped In Secondary

Dry hopping adds aroma, it won't effect bittering. When i've bulk primed (from secondary which was dry hopped) most of the hop debris stayed in secondary but if I also catch a bit in the inline filter. Search for "Inline Filter" to find the topic with pics and instructions. Only costs about...

    Dry Hopped In Secondary

I recommend the GMK inline filter, works a treat. Even if a few bits of hops get into the bottles its not really anything to get worried over, they won't hurt.

    All Grain Or Extract

My first 2 brews were K&K, then 1 extract brew, then 1 partial, then AG. I found AG a lot easier to fathom after watching a couple of demo's and have never looked back. I think the main reason I moved onto AG so quick was that I wanted to have a lot of creative control over my brews, and after...

    Gameco Burner

I've got the same burner and it works a treat. But i recommend letting it run for about 30mins in a well ventalated area before you brew with it. When I first fired it up for my first AG, **** tins of smoke and fumes filled the garage from the paint on the burner. Cheers, Sam edit...

Hills Brewers At The Malt Shovel

Yes it's me. The new version of AHB didn't like the "" and replaced it with a "?" so had to change user name and there is another user "sam" so I had to find another option.

Hills Brewers At The Malt Shovel

Firstly I'd like to thank Tseay for bringing the night together! It was a very informative and tasty experience! :D It was great to be able to see how it's all done on a larger scale and the opportunity to taste the Golden Ale out of the bright beer tank was awesome!

A Tasteless, Watery, Lowly-hopped 'mates Brew'

Hi JS, I'd have to agree with the others, just do a Basic "Lager" Kit with a kilo of dextrose. Prob want to keep an eye on ferment temps tho so it doesn't taste too fruity/cidery from highish temps. Otherwise they might think the fruity taste is a bit adventurous :P

    What are you listening to

Excellent post Brauluver! A very cool explanation of the album! I'm still hooked on 10,000 Days and Rosetta Stone "Fetch me the spirit, the son and the father Tell them there pillar of Faith is ascending It's time now, my time now Give me my, give me my Wings!" :beerbang:  :super:
