FIRST POST! 1st All Grain Brew Question

No, that's not correct. I usually have at least 3 bottles left :(

FIRST POST! 1st All Grain Brew Question

15kg is a lot of grain! I'd usually have a grain bill around 5-6kg for a 23L brew. I usually wait about 3 weeks before cracking one open, then realise it needs more time, try again at 4 weeks and keep drinking only to realise at 8 weeks that this is how long I should have waited!

    Paulyman's Adventures in All Grain

Yes, you have to weigh these things up and avoid partner wrath. After cirrhosis of the liver it's the leading cause of home brewer retirement. I give plenty of prior notice and brew after the kids are asleep to minimise this! Sounds like you mitigated the ill effects of the shorter boil well, so...

    Paulyman's Adventures in All Grain

Good stuff! If you cut the boil short, just be aware that there may be a number of impacts: lower bitterness than you had planned, DMS (especially if you used pilsner malt as the base), and a lower OG/higher volume due to less boil off. Those things and the pump problem aside, sounds like it...

    Nizmoose makes the AG leap

Well done mate, it's a good feeling, and a great one when you open a bottle of beer and think about how it used to be grain! (And some other ****!). Sounds like it went off without a hitch and that's partly due to the planning you did, which includes asking questions!

RecipeDB - Lord Nelson Citra Cascading out of this Galaxy Pale Ale

LRG, there seems to be 3 different grain bills in this thread: the original with rye & caramunich, the "sans-Nelson" with red wheat & heritage crystal and the "Lord Nelson is dead" with 9% carared. Just curious if you prefer one over another? I'm planning on brewing this without the Nelson, but...

    Nizmoose makes the AG leap

Also, Craftbrewer sell cheap Brewsmith licenses. I have the app too, and it's easy enough to pop recipes in the cloud so you can access on both versions.

Olliebollens will help with that! ;)

    No Irish, please

I know, so was I. Olliebollens are weird but tasty Dutch doughnut type things that Tasmanians love.

    No Irish, please

Chris, the Dutch have made some important contributions. Being from Tassie, surely you've benefitted from an olliebollen or ten?

    No Irish, please

I agree, although I think it would be naive to imply people today are free from the impact of this prejudice. Disadvantage is intergenerational, and the great grandchildren of those who WERE directly disadvantaged because of their Irish Catholic heritage may still have below average educational...

    Gluten free beer fermentation times.

Do you mean a gravity of 1.010? What was your OG and anticipated FG? If it's 1.010 it could be all done. No experience with sorghum I'm afraid.

    No Irish, please

Actually, as someone of Irish ancestry, I think the dumb/drunk/fighty Irish stereotype can be damaging. An Irish bloke in Melbourne not so long ago was in court after damaging a hotel by opening the tap in a fire hose. Would usually not rate a mention in the press, but they went to town with the...

Aust Post sets up warehouse in US

Plenty of other retailers doing it (though I certainly didn't intend to imply HB retailers), not just digital.

Aust Post sets up warehouse in US

Actually, I reckon the Australian government should be actively involved in making sure the Australian public aren't being bent-over by retailers. I understand we're geographically isolated & have higher wages etc, but even digital content attracts a dumb-Aussie levy. (Not a comment directed at...

    Grain mill - on eBay

I think this is a key consideration. If you're ordering grain on a per-brew basis, there's little advantage in cracking your own grist. On the other hand, if you want to take advantage of bulk buys, or like to have ingredients on hand so you can brew on a whim, it's necessary to have access to...
