Woke up to the smell of Beer!

I wasn't blaming the swing top, just referring to the bottle style - going in the bin! Back to my Coles soda PEPs' the new 2ltr 'Big Weekender Stubbie' is a ripper - Cheers....

Woke up to the smell of Beer!

Nothing unusual there, not asleep on the Tap Room floor check, omg a leaking keg! nope, thinks; fark, I bottled a batch of Boh-Pils for a mate for Christmas in Grolsch bottles, BOOM! beer everyf*where. I never use glass bottles apart from Champagne, the beer was well fermented stopped at 1006...

    Purging fermenter after adding wort?

No need, DO is only an issue post fermentation / packaging, plus if you’r using a closed fermenter the 02 will be blown off fast, too much BS is talked about oxygen, not referring to you, good question btw. scomet

    I can't bleach it's not StarSan

I was told by an eminent chemist “thats just soap” Darren, 10 is good 20 is better doesn't work, especially with chemicals, its all to do with dilute molecule size, same with weed killers… (10 works, 20 may-not) Starsan Rocks, good thread btw.

Sorry, this is a rhetorical question to which I thought the answer was a simple NO! Well, apparently you can. I just drank these three cans of beer from Lucky Bay Brewing in Esperance WA and they tasted very nice, here are the brewery details. https://www.luckybaybrewing.com.au I drank the...

    Ale yeast + Lager

G’day Kezzzbot, To answer your question 1/ Yes 2/ None (imho) hence the term faux lager. Many a German beer lover will be hurling abuse but I think you can make beautiful Faux Lagers using ale yeasts for summer. Its a much simpler process, join a German brewing group on facebook and plagiarise...

    First use of Nottingham

There is a bit of an art to rehydrating dry yeasts they are quite fussy little critters. Water temp, soaking time, stirring time, differential temps; yeast to water to wort all have to be well managed. Critical is the hydration of the cell walls and when they need to be introduced to the wort to...

    First use of Nottingham

Notto, the only yeast I use these days, buy in bulk and over pitch in Ales, faux Pilsners, Bia Hoi, big beers use a bit more, never fails. Three to four weeks in the keg is good….

Carbing/Conditioning in a Cube before keg

I agree with NickB, do the math 12psi over 200 sq" + gas is an energised fluid, the force is enormous! A split rim at 2psi will take your head off, this imho is a very unsafe practice. Just because it hasn't doesn't mean it wont....

    New or Refurbished Kegs?

G’day Bdogg, my opinion for what its worth! The new Chinese kegs I’ve seen have been crap, dud welding and signs of rust iwo the welds on the inside from poor penetration! New Italian kegs are great but expensive $150ea I bought a couple during the last great corny keg drought of 2014. Second...

    Beer Head Retention

As mentioned before here on AHB what puzzles me is; the same beer can be bottled and kegged with the same level of cleaning, sanitation, and carbonation. The kegged beer pours perfectly the bottled beer while being well carbonated can pour totally headless!? I have noticed quite a few recent...

    Newbie

weal is correct but life does get in the way of brewing sometimes! If you have no chilled (all grain) and the beer went in hot and its not been open then you can get away with a few days the longer you wait the higher the risk… If it's a canned beer kit mixed warm do it as soon as its at...
