    Mangrove Jack Northern Bitter

Good to know, I don't mind the Coopers English bitter myself, going to the brew shop today so I might give this one a crack.

    Coopers bookmakers pale ale

Yeah I'm going to be cautious with the kit yeasts that come with the new cans. The one that came with an amber ale can totally wrecked the batch.

A case of over-carbonation in bottles!

This thing would have probably carbed up by itself... I just used around 1.2kg of ldme I had at the time topped off with dex. Came out great.

A case of over-carbonation in bottles!

I've done this brew a while back and I think it was very prone to creating a huge head when pouring. I didn't think much of it at the time as it didn't really last that long as it went down a bit too well.. I don't use drops, just normal white sugar and I'm too lazy to measure. A heaped...

    is this right? cider

+1 to not foaming ... except imagine the surprise when my first apple/cranberry cider took off and needed a blowoff tube from the demi... must be something in the cranberry juice that foams like crazy.

Coopers Stout reached 1010 Gravity in a couple of days

I've had several batches of Coopers stout going nuts and finish in 4 days, though that's whacking a new batch on the cake and 1kg dme and "some" dex. Nothing like a quick crazy ferment, just got to be ready for the volcano.

    PET vs glass.

A bit late into the conversation but I've never had any issues carbing up in PET. I use 1.25-2l soft drink bottles for all my brews, hell the cider comes out overcarbonated (priming with juice, my fault etc), pouring that into a pint you get half cider half froth at worst. I'm not too sure...

    Best ciders

My current cheapo one is 20l coles apple (no aldi here) and 4l cranberry, prime with cranberry when bottling. Works out great with high fizz that's refreshing and stays sparkly in a pint glass with ice. Total cost maybe $35 for 24l, cranberry is expensive. Used EC-1118 so far. Actually, might...

Brew day - back in Aus... Coopers "family secret" amber ale

I put down an amber ale kit about a month ago, used kit yeast, hydrated with a dash of malt and it seemed to wake up fine. Took forever to take off though, 2-3 days before I got condensation on the lid. I've been checking on it regularly, sitting in 18c, just seems like a really slow ferment...

    new coopers brew A IPA

I have made a couple of these with 1-1.5kg LDME and some dex depending how much LDME I've had at the time. The yeast that comes with the tin seems like it's got two different types in it... It chewed through the batch no worries, dumping a new batch on the cake works aw well with same results...

Starting out again, looking for basics in Hobart

Long term plan is to move on from K&K as well as start kegging instead of bottling, but for the time being I'm looking at (slowly) building up the equipment and well... consumables to tide me over. I had a read through one of the cider threads yesterday, went to brewtas, got the starter kit...

How to get started in Cider. The definitive(ish) guide to beginner&#39

Well after reading through this thread yesterday (like many else in the past), I was compelled to give it a go and holy moly this thing took off like a rocket compared to beer. Hydrated EC1118 seems to love the stuff. Just put down a 4l batch and it was happily bubbling away after a while. It's...

Starting out again, looking for basics in Hobart

Thanks for the info, it's appreciated. I have never even heard of the freecycle thing, might give it a go as I'm on a budget with this one for now.

Starting out again, looking for basics in Hobart

Thanks for the reply Alex.Tas, unfortunately tomorrow might be a bit too close to organise. Is there a website or some such where to find more info about the club and it's meetings etc? Cheers

Starting out again, looking for basics in Hobart

Hi, just moved interstate and got rid of all my brewing kit a couple of years ago, so I'm looking at starting up again... And have no kit. I'm sure I'll find what I need at the local homebrew store, but just wondering if anyone around Hobart is looking at getting rid of some equipment, if so...
