    What are your “go to” mineral additions for Pale Ales?

    The last 2 I did were R/O water Caso4 3.68 g and Cacl2 1.16 g in the mash Caso4 2.88 g and Cacl2 1.26 g in the kettle Ca 62.5 ppm sulfate 89.3 ppm chloride 44.7 ppm Got 2 different ph readings cause of the grist 5.38 and 5.24

    The only time Ive use slaked lime in my pale ale was when I went the big caso4 hit Needed it to get to my ph in the mash Didnt like the outcome so never gone that way again I find just using caso4 & cacl2 in a pale ale gives me enough ca in the mash & boil

    What boil ph do you look for & when do you test it I aim for about 60ppm of ca for ales & they drop nicely cheers rude

    R/O user as well & from Perth as well If you use Brun you dial in 100% R/O and the figures come up for you very close to a blank canvas My R/O was from Psi filters very happy with it too You can guess the means from the reports but high sodium & chlorides put me off

    I use R/O water & use Brun Water software to calculate For a pale beer say a Kolsch I add Caso4 & CaCI2 to the mash which has some acid malt in the grist to get to my desired ph The rest goes straight into the boil this gets my ppms of calcium, sulphate & chloride where I want it Always done it...

    My old mill uses a truck w/w motor I used a power supply to run it no probs It’s a bit slow 60 rpm but never checked it Will be using something quicker on my new mill at least 180 rpm

    Acid malt is good in the mash though R/O water for the sparge then you don't need to treat it
