    Mini Keg Bulk Buy MKIV

Eh the tracking number hasn't changed at all. Often it goes right from "picked up" to "delivered". When via Australia Lost more oftehn than not I have stuff scanned as delivered but it's still at the PO.

    Frozen fermented beer

I have a little freeze on the edge when I cold crash because the fermenter sits right up against the coil. No sweat. Had a keg completely freeze once, just let it thaw out fully and gave it some time for the CO2 to dissolve again fully.

HELP! I think my first batch may be dodgy!

In the ingredients you left out water, given the other ingredients and it's 1.035 assume it's 20 litres. So to get this straight, it's been 8 days and your gravity has dropped from 1.035 to ~1.020? Should be further along after 8 days

HELP! I think my first batch may be dodgy!

1.000 will do that. Going to guess it's a light kit and 1kg dextrose?

HELP! I think my first batch may be dodgy!

CO2 will burn your nostrils Actually it's not the CO2 it's H2CO3 (carbonic acid) which comes in weak concentration when you dissolve CO2 in water. Same reason burping it burns your nose and tingles your tongue, it's just in higher concentration. And it smells acidic because, well, it's an acid...

    Where is the stout head?

Makes sense, I've used the ****** cheap home brand ones as well as some more better ones couldn't really comment either way as they were different beers. Sometimes I toast them, I notice under a heavy toast some of them sweat a little which can then be blotted away. Oils and fats are...

    Where is the stout head?

When using oats I always add some wheat or carapils to even things out in the protein department.

    STC1000 Calibration

While you're at it may as well order a whole new unit from the evil bay, they don't cost much and it's not a terrible thing to have a spare of. The probe may well do the trick.

Pumping ice water through counter flow chiller

Yep I'd believe this. Mine was 23 the other day and it's not even a hot day. I can chill to ~25 then drop it in my pre chilled fridge. I bought an el cheapo pump and plan to recirculate ice water through my immersion chiller. I did this once with my KK pump as proof of concept, worked but I...

Is this keg setup any good

Don't skimp out on taps. $45 gets you an intertap, better design, stainless, not crap like these cheap ones. You really don't want a cheap tap. You will also need shanks. Check out kegking, $75 kegs and free shipping to capital cities if you spend $200 or more. I usually wait until I have $200...

Suspect they're exactly the same supplier. Suspect given the price point, a lot less AHBers bought them. Odds being pretty small, unlikely there's affected ones on here...

    Beerkat - Kegs & Growlers

For the price point, a brand new 9, 10 or 12L corny would come in a lot cheaper by the time you factor in the spear etc... a more convenient size in some cases perhaps. Though the ikegger prices are pretty inflated so I'm sure BK can do it better, then coupled with existing kit might be worth...

Mini Keg Discussion / Mods / Show Off - Dedicated Thread

Thanks for the summary mate, I've been pretty flat out so barely been able to follow the saga. 10 out of however many is really not terrible If I get a lemon I'm not going to cry about it (not saying anyone is), with the service from Mark and the folk at BK, I'm not worried about any issues...

    Saving time/overnight mashing.

FWIW, I don't particularly try to shave time off of my brew day but I do it where I can without modifying my processes. One thing that I have done is fill up my electric HLT with water and place it on a timer so it comes on a few hours before I wake up in the morning, strike water being ready...

    Keg Blending

Too bitter. I have one in bottles I made which had incorrectly labelled hops, far too intense to drink on its own, I have to blend it with something with basically no bitterness in the glass. So would be far, far more convenient to just have done this in the keg if I were kegging back then...

    Have I wasted $25?

Nothing a good nuking won't solve. Done gingers in my fermenters too, just gave it a normal wash and a day in the sun and you'd never know. Tap went in the bin though.
