    Show Us Your Mash Paddle

I had a plastic spoon and thought Id buy a plastic paddle as backup for the inevitable snap unfortunately they both broke within 5 mins of each other. So in a fit of desperation, I cut the handle from a broom. Gave it a clean with chlorine, and into service it went. I think I will replace it...

    Mistakes With Starters

The yeast seems to have taken off ok. I pitched at 10 last night, after letting it warm to room temp 16c, siphoned off about of the liquid from the top, shake and pitch. This morning there is a good yeast activity. Love those little guys, so forgiving

    Alternates To Flavour Hops

I am interested in adding a close genetic relative to hops in my Xmas beer. I would be very interested in hearing of others results to experiments in this area.

    Mistakes With Starters

Brew day has taken longer than expected, so the yeast starter will get a good 10 hours in the fridge, at 1c. I have had to bottle 50 L of beer from previous brews. I will decant only clear(er) wort and hopefully leave most of the viable yeast in the slurry. Will report back on progress.

    Mistakes With Starters

Decided to try the WYeast 1275 liquid. Have read that its best to make about a 2L starter, with a gravity between 1030 1040. 220g DME and 2L water. Then the problems started, I bought a 2L Erlenmeyer Flask and 10mins into a nice gentle rolling boil, I gave it a bit of a stir with the handle...

    Honey Beer

I am keen to try my hand at honey ale are there any recommendations. I would like to produce something that has a hop flavor but with honey as the underlying taste and not malt. My first all grain was an American Pale Ale oh man, its so good. As the Pope is in Australia. Perhaps he gave a...

First Ag. The Brew-day Plan So Far.

A mate and I have started with similar equipment. The result is both brilliant and problematic for us. The first we did was an American pale ale, it is about 10 days into the bottle conditioning. So yesterday, we decided to try our first creation, while we did two more brews, a light ale and...

    Introduce Yourself.

Hi there fellow beer lovers, I am from Perth WA, and have been looking around this site since I was given a HB kit for my bday about two week ago. It has been close to a 15-year gap between now and the last time I made a brew, I hope for better results this time. The main difference now is...
