    Aldi specials

Yep a big electric hot plate has allowed me to move activities to the garage instead of the kitchen. Edit: On this topic - I can do full brew day with a couple jerry cans filled with water in the garage (Strike, mash, sparge, boil) on a single hot plate. The only thing I can't do down there...

    Cryo Hops - Discussion Thread

Tasting mine now - very smooth actually for one month, goes well with the cascade. As usual with my beers needs to clear up a bit, but the taste is there.

    Kegs Before ‘First Fill’

Great info above. One small addition I would suggest (for new gear) is to triple rinse with water before going through the above sanitation. The large volume of water used by triple rinsing will ultra-dilute any nasties and also flush out anything (e.g. metal shavings) left from manufacturing...

Who's up for a "Trill" parrot mix beer brewing competition?

    F*ck you Woolworths

tasty. On the subject of Trill, I was thinking a while back of malting a box (parrot mix) and making a beer out of it. Could be interesting...

How do you aim your mash temp after taking into account loss during mash?

Good data. Would be interested in doing this on my set up too.

Yep it's not too bad once you get going (I did 12 glass bottles in about half hour today), but the gear is fiddly and requires careful sanitation. The cleaning is the time consuming bit. Stopped at 12 bottles because the baby woke and we had a kitchen half painted in black sticky stout ...

Just did some bottling today, can confirm it's a messy and complicated job but it does work. It really depends if you want to drink out of glass or whether you don't mind drinking out of the PET plastic. If you don't mind the PET the carb cap is the go (I'm considering giving it a go myself...

Continuing Rant Thread - Get it Off Ya Chest here

Bloody parochial western Aussies! Wife and I have been looking at moving across to Perth to be closer to family, so I've been on the hunt for work. Every job I look at insists that I "must have a current valid Western Australian drivers licence" I explain I have an unblemished Australian...

When you are tired of hoppy beers what do you brew?

Ahhh, over sucking sour worm lollies? May I recommend the raspberry jube, banana or Belgium truffle chocolate?

    Small Batch carbing

I've had a couple of these for over a year and had no problems with them.

I love beer and brewing, but..

China has possibly the highest rates of work place deaths in the World (construction included). .. That is not something we should aspire to.

    Making pilsners with ale malt

Republican Stout/Ale would be better. We would be much stronger than those Indian or Imperial wussies. Pilsner comes from those Bohemians .. and a damn good job they did too. I like it.

I love beer and brewing, but..

Couldn't do it to my workmates, if I'm swinging a machete close to people and they are doing the same with me.... you better be sober mate. I want to go home with all my bits.

I love beer and brewing, but..

Opposite for me, I work at certain times of year in the hot sun with dangerous equipment (e.g. swinging a cane knife, hydraulic corers) - Going to the job with anything like a hangover would be bloody dangerous... A beer or two on weeknights is all that's possible. On the weekend you can have a...
