    Leffe Yeast Strain

I made a Duvel clone that called for Candi Syrup. We used good old cane sugar instead. I think we increased the speciality grains a little.

    Beer syphon

I'll admit it: I've sucked the end of the hose to start a siphon. Not my proudest moment, but when you gotta transfer beer, you gotta do what it takes.

    Crazy American threads

As an American metricator I'd like to offer a 'measured' response. Idiots in all countries have figured out how to make web pages. Not all Americans feel that way. Viva la Metric-cion. Back on topic: it took me 2 years to find the right flared fitting for a project once. I still get mixed up...

Novice after some tips about the KK Series 4 Kegerator

+1 on what Jase wrote. Making your own homebrew is really great, and doesn't have to be hard a or require expensive equipment. I would sometimes buy kegs from my local brewery of in between homebrew batches just to keep the brews flowing when feeling lazy. Having a kegerator for serving and a...

West Coast USA Road Trip - Oct/Nov

Sounds like a great trip! Anchor Brewing is a cool place, but as I recall it books out in advance so definitely give them a call. Across the bay from SF is Oakland where I lived. Drake's Brewing has a restaurant called Drake's Dealership with good food and 30+ beers on tap (their own +...

Archaeological brewing - 1835 recipe help

Two thoughts: 80% efficiency could be too high. And maybe double check the bushels-to-kg of grain. Wikipedia says 1 bushel = 8 gallons, so it was 20 gallons of grain. I think it would be less than 50-some kgs, based on my recollection of how much grain I could fit in a 6 gallon bucket...

Hi - homebrewer moving to Australia

Yeah, did that today thinking it would be a good idea to buy beer and save the bottles. I may just wait til my stuff arrives and buy empty bottles at the homebrew store. Prices are crazy!

Hi - homebrewer moving to Australia

Thanks guys. We landed safely. Always fun flying 14h with a 13 month old. Looking forward to getting our shipment so I can brew! I'll definitely be reading up in the other sections on local ingredients. I'm excited to find new malts and hops. PS - was told CO2 bottle could not be shipped, so...

Hi - homebrewer moving to Australia

Thanks all, Move date is next week! But we're shipping all the homebrew stuff which will take 10-12 weeks to arrive  I've traded my gas burner for an extra keg, so will be looking for one when we get there. I was planning on taking my co2 but didn't think it through. Is it easy to...

Hi - homebrewer moving to Australia

Thanks all on the feedback. I had been wondering about the propane fitting... I may buy an adapter before I ship out. I googled 'no chill' - very interesting! We're just coming out of drought in California, so we always try to dump cooling water in the garden (lots of running around with...

Hi - homebrewer moving to Australia

Hi all, My name's Alex. I'm moving to Sydney later this year from the USA (job relocation + wife's family are there + lived in Sydney in 2008-2009). So very exciting! I've been brewing with a friend making all-grain batches. We've been splitting 38 liter batches, and I plan to step down to 19...
