    I late hop with 100gm at 4 minutes and 100 gm at 2 minutes as I find adding hops at 0 or minus 5 minutes gives a fruity cloudy beer.

    Buy a new 25 litre plastic fermenter and ferment in that before kegging as usual - is the problem still there - if yes kegging side of process - and use strong bleach to sanitise all parts in kegging process - wash many times with cold water then many times with hot water - good luck !

    Yes, alcohol will mess the reading if its via a refractometer. Hydrometer shouldn't affect it though. Alcohol in fact messes FG refractometer AND hydrometer readings - but not by enough to worry about !

    It is hot break. 50 years brewing always hydrate Safale 04. Jug transfer to 13 L and 9 L FV's - cooled in the kitchen sink. Fermented in unheated garage but in the kitchen for the cold months.

    England calling.....I mash for 75 minutes at around 68 deg C then transfer the liquor to the boiler. As it heats up I scoop off the brown sludge. Once boiling I add hops in stages. At end of boil I leave for 2 hours then jug the wort into my FV's, 13 and 9 litre stainless steel pans with lids...

    I use (UK) Chemipro for bottles but only hot water and elbow grease for my stainless steel fermenters..

    so 20 ebu = 19.8 ibu 50 ebu=40.7 ibu 100 ebu = 49.6 ibu surely it would be closer to linear...
