    How many use bottles?

Style dependant, about 80% kegged, 20% bottled, bottles are champagne bottles.

    Co2 Leaking - Had Enough

HeyHo, long story short, Landlord back in the day, started to homebrew with bottles, commercial stuff just not available, came to Oz in 85, and discovered "hb kegs" paid $350 EACH for second hand coke cornies, commercial stuff in 20L just not available, 2004 went to PNG for 10yrs (that's a whole...

    Co2 Leaking - Had Enough

OK, I'll assume you've never taken one apart, commercial kegs have an anti tamper device that prevents the removal of the spear, this vid shows you how to remove the spear and then grind off the tab so that next time you need to remove it, it's a simple matter of just unscrewing it. For christs...

    Co2 Leaking - Had Enough

Hi Klosey, have you replaced the seals in the keg? No seal lasts forever. I used these things for years back in my Landlord days and never had a problem, it's one of the reasons I've switched from ball locks.

    Co2 Leaking - Had Enough

The ultimate answer is to go commercial, the consensus is A-type couplers (German sliders) are the best as there's no hole in the keg for stuff to collect in. I decided to switch late last year, prices are not too different, and there's a ready market for cornies. Cleaning can be done by simply...

    Co2 Leaking - Had Enough

Hi Darren, for gas: stainless barbs and clamps (not hose clamps but the round things that you squeeze to seal) for liquid it doesn't matter what you use as you will see the leak. Painless way to fit the line to the barbs: put line in boiling water to soften then jam a pair of needle nosed pliers...

Making a malt pipe out of a 55L keg

The brewzilla has a ball valve on the recirculation pipe, I think a lot of folks don't understand its purpose, and use it as an on/off device, it can however be used to regulate the flow of wort over the grain bed such that the overflow pipe never comes into play, as you point out however if you...

    Westy 12 any thoughts.

Be sure to read "Crash deglazing" at the bottom of the document. For all my big beers I use champagne bottles with tirage caps, and for special batches I also seal with wax, there's discussion about O2 ingress with crown caps, I have no evidence either way but the wax adds a certain WOW...

    Westy 12 any thoughts.

Thanks Mark, agreed 100% on the Candi, I've made my own and whilst interesting it's not the same as the commercial stuff, I was just unsure about "dark" being the same as D180. The other concern was the Belgian pale, do you think the German pale would be as close as I can get? Yeast wise I'm...

    Westy 12 any thoughts.

I'm stocked up on my usual RIS's/BW's and Imperial IPA's so I've decided to do a Westy 12 for Xmas. 4.5kg Belgian pilsner (grain and grape) 2.5kg Belgian pale? Can't find it anywhere, would assume German pale pretty close but don't know, any ideas? 1.2kg D180? many options, some offer D180...

All About Canning - Cannular Can Seamers and More...

Quality hand crank canners cost over $1000, electric are well over $2000, you get what you pay for, it's remarkable that KL have been able to produce an electric semi auto canner for $750, but it comes as no great surprise that adjustments are a bit hit and miss, and that it requires "fiddling"...

Chrome plating completely gone from inside of taps

No worries, fwiw the reason I bought a Nuka was the FC, I like my Ultra's but don't like the 2mtrs of "tuned" beer line, and as you point out there's no FC option the big problem for me is I like a choice of beer (mood dependant) some are almost flat (ok I'm a pom and sometimes yearn for a cask...

    When to dry hop

Next time just use some glass marbles in the bag for weight, easy to sanitise and no danger of anything nasty leaching out of them. I use a neodymium magnet on the outside and a teflon coated stir bar in the bag.

Chrome plating completely gone from inside of taps

I wouldn't be comfortable running beverage through brass, given that full stainless taps are available for $30 I'd be ditching the Celli's just to be on the safe side. $90 is a small price to pay for peace of mind, plus you'd be getting forward sealing taps which imo are superior to the rear...

    Pear Cider

As Mark mentioned, DAP by itself isn't particularly good especially with fruit juices, you really need a complete nutrient something like fermaid Learn more about our nutrients. | Lallemand Brewing but in a pinch get some bakers yeast, just the cheap stuff from a supermarket, and boil it for...
