    Gose & Salt

I haven't brewed a gose but I have tasted a number of commercial examples and also quite a few from homebrewers. I would err on the side of underdoing the salt, once you go over a certain threshold the beer ends up tasting like gatoraid. The best examples I've had are subtle in the salt department.

    (longer) Celli FC shanks

That would work. If you're going to Bunnings anyway I would take the JG fitting and see if they have an 8pt socket or tube spanner that fits, or a piece of steel or aluminium tube that fits.

The next problem once you recess the back of the holes is how to tighten the plastic john guest fitting on the end of the shank. It's octagonal rather than the normal hexagonal that nuts tend to be. I fashioned up a tube spanner out of a short length of square steel tube. Nothing I had laying...

    (longer) Celli FC shanks

Ive got a celli on my portable setup. I have a router but used a spade drill bit to recess the back of the collar to solve the same problem. Probably work out cheaper than a router.

You know what they say - more than three shakes. ......

    Fire Safety in the Brewhouse

I've heard that the powder compacts over time so they only have a lifespan of a couple of years? I got a couple of powder ones a few years back for the camper trailer. Probably need to renew them?

    BIAB Saison

No, don't dry hop. This style is all about the yeast so if you're going for a classic saison flavour hops will get in the way. As LRGI said in a previous post make this one an awesome base, then if you want to change up future batches do it then.

Thanks mate. Hydro samples are tasting good but I need it to get to FG so I can bottle for the xmas case swap. You're not heading down to this one?

    BIAB Saison

I have generally added about 100g of a crystal malt in my saisons. Again make your beer what you want. You've suggested that you want dry and acidic so you might leave it out all together as suggested above. My latest saison is a christmas spiced saison so I wanted the funky spicy flavours with...

    BIAB Saison

I note that your revised recipe has a higher ABV than your original. It's totally up to you but for me saisons are an easy drinking summer beer. According to the BJCP guidelines they can have an ABV as low as 3.5. Most of mine have been around 4-5. Just depends what you really want.

    BIAB Saison

Yep, don't shoot the wheat. I've made 100% wheat saisons with absolutely no banana, taste like saisons should and not like a hefeweizen. Wyeast French Saison yeast gets my vote. Also, don't trust clone recipes even if they're published on a reputable website like BYO. I've seen some with...

    Beersmith Water Profile Tool

I'll try to report back. Funny, I always tell new brewers the biggest improvement come from sanitation and temperature control. I might have to change my spiel.

    Beersmith Water Profile Tool

Thanks Warra, good to have some positive feedback on the tool in beersmith. A lot of the comments I found weren't great but I suspect they relate to BS1.

    Beersmith Water Profile Tool

Thanks Damian, I was thinking I'd have a go in Beersmith and then send you the results to have a look at and compare. If you could compare all 3 that would be great given you've obviously got some experience in this area compared to my lack of experience.

    Beersmith Water Profile Tool

@crowmanz did a great talk on water chemistry at our last brew club meeting so I am re-inspired to get into water adjustments. During the talk we looked at Bru'n water and EZ water. Just wondering what people's thought are on the water tool in beersmith these days. Had a search but the few...
