Dry Hopping & Spices In English Bitter

Interesting, as I recently made a Hoegaarden style incorporating coriander and orange peel, a good blend of spice and citrus and kind of what I'm looking for in this one. I don't want to put something totally wrong in and f*&k it up. I like drinking beer with curry, but I don't want to drink...

    Ginger Beer Recipe

I'm planning on doing a non-alc ginger beer using a coopers GB kit + fresh ginger and a chilli or 2. may throw in some lime also. Question is, should I boil up the fresh ginger and chilli and let it steep overnight, or should I just simmer it for 20 minutes or so tomorrow before adding to...

    When To Rack?

Thanks for the feedback. I checked JP's site as well which backed up my thinking. Racked after 4 days, when the airlock had stopped bubbling, but not settled. Once in secondary it started bubbling again, so it nudged the fermentation along a bit. Also, as it is still fermenting, it is pushing...

    When To Rack?

I have been racking most of my beers to secondary and i have noticed a drop in the yeast flavours, making the beer taste better earlier. Initially I was racking after fermentation had finished, at around 7 days. However, recently i was advised to rack a particular recipe before fermentation had...

    Testing Sg Of Bottled Brew

Is it possible to test the SG of a bottled (carbonated) brew, if it is at room temp? If so, does the beer need to be flat to get a correct reading?

    Stalled Brew -apa

Thanks for that, I checked my notes for 3 previous brews and they had OG of 1048-1052 with FG of 1017-1022 (that's why we keep notes eh?) so I guess 1035 may have been wrong. I was planning to rack to secondary anyway, if I do that on Saturday, after 13 days in primary how long can I leave in...

    Sapporo Exploding Bottles

Just a minor warning. My olds recently had 3 exploding bottles, their first in 12 years of brewing. All of the bottles were Sapporo Black Label, brewed and bottled in Canada. While quite a tasty drop, and reasonably priced, I woudl think twice before re-using the bottles for your home brew.

    Brewers Droop

My friend who has been brewing for some time recently complained (after a few home brews) that he had been experiencing "brewers droop" of late. I asked for details but he wouldn't elaborate. Have any others expereinced this? Is it unpleasant and how is it best avoided? I'm new to brewing so...
