Opening the Fermenter to Dry Hop

Hey guys, Quick question, I'm following a recipe that calls for my beer to be dry hopped after 5 days in the fermenter. However my air lock is still bubbling and I'm wondering whether its a good idea to open it up when its doing this. Should I wait till fermentation is over (or at least the...

    English style IPAs

Hi Guys, Thanks for all your help last time with APA recipes. This time, I'm trying to brew an English style IPA but I'm having trouble finding recipes. Does anyone know a good English IPA recipe using extract?

    Good APA recipe?

Hey guys, Haven't brewing over the summer because its hard to keep a consistently good temperature in my apartment. But now autumn is here and I have a fermenting fridge on the way, I'm looking for a decent APA recipe to kick off 2014 brewing with. Prefer to use DME because currently i'm only...

What Australian beers are good examples of a certain hop?

Hi Guys, Well into my home brewing at the moment, and to try and establish what tastes I liked, I wondered if you might be able to tell me what beers are good examples of certain type of hops. For example I tried Oakham Ales Citra at the weekend, which is a single hop beer using citra. After...

    Brewing in high temperatures

Temperature was pretty constant in the first week and this brew started bubbling through the airlock with 4 hours of it hitting the fermenter so my thinking is the fermentation is over basically. Does temperature have any effect once the beer is conditioning in the bottles?

    Brewing in high temperatures

Hi Guys, Just wondering if I should be worried today, Melbourne is predicted to reach 28c and Im 9 days into brewing a pacific ale clone. I used Safale 05 for yeast and I've noticed the airlock has stopped bubbling already. The fermenter is currently sitting in a wardrobe but our apartment...

    Ringwood and Galaxy

Hi Guys, About to put on my next pale ale and was thinking of using a mix of Pride of Ringwood for the bittering and Galaxy for the finishing. Has anyone used this combination? If so what were the results like?

    Newbie

I'd start with something basic like a coopers kit just to get your head round the process and the basics of home brewing. Then make your way on dry extract, and play about with hop, malt, grain and yeast variations. It's great to drink something you've created yourself and your learn so much...

    Priming

What's been your experience with bulk priming?

    Priming

Thanks that my experience too. I know a lot of advice is to put the sugar in a second fermenter and siphon the beer in the first one into the second.

    Priming

Hi guys, What are your thoughts on bulk priming but in a single fermenting vessel. I've tried it a couple of times, when I was brewing in 5l carbuoys but now I've stepped up to 15l I'm reconsidering it. I don't tend to stir the beer once I've added the priming solution, tend to shake it about...

Yeast to use for Steam Ale (Californian Common)

Thanks Guys. I've upgraded to a 15 litre fermenter now so i can make a nice standard beer in that and experiment more in the 5 litres. My apartment tends to sit about 20-21c so i'm a just bit worried a hot day will push it over 22c and ruin a lager yeast. But worth a try eh

Yeast to use for Steam Ale (Californian Common)

Hi Guys, Thinking about trying to make a Steam Ale. Come up with a basic recipe using the spreadsheet (Light Dry Malt, Light Crystal 60 and Northern Brewer Hops), now onto considering what sort of yeast to use. I'm conscious of the temperature being all over the place at the moment in...

    Sparging - begineer

I'm using the spreadsheet on the forum to design the brews, so I'm hoping it'll be okay. What sort of quantities would you suggest bum? Also another questions, when I have been steeping grains, I haven't been using the steeping water for the main boil. I've been adding the steeped water either...
