    The scientific method

I'm hoping this thread goes where it is intended. I don't think I'll be able to participate as I only do kits and that infrequently as I'm not a heavy drinker, I just like the taste of beer. Only did 3 brews this year with what I had left over from last year I only went without beer for about 2...

    Coopers Mexican Cerveza

After 2 Weeks in the bottle this brew is OK too much malt and too little hop for my liking. Slightly sweet after taste. I'll leave it for another week before I open another one. At this point if I did another one I would use dex and maltodextrine to reduce the maltiness. Sent from my HDC-08...

    Mangrove Jacks Craft Series

I have a pale ale tradition pack with 1kg ldme in the fermenter at the moment. Used the kit yeast as temperature control is a bit of a challenge. Am thinking of a dry hop addition at day 7 with 25g Amarillo. Did not boil anything added ldme dissolved in cold* water to fermenter added pouch and...

    Coopers Mexican Cerveza

Bottled this today. FG 1.008. Not a strong hop flavour. Could be a nice light easy drinking beer. Sent from my HDC-08 using Tapatalk 4

    Coopers Mexican Cerveza

Thank you burrster for the recommendation. I ended up going with 15g of cascade as I was a little concerned with over doing it for a very low flavour beer. I'm hoping that my wife will enjoy this one, she is NOT a beer drinker but something light and malty she may do. She tasted my LC pale ale...

    Coopers Mexican Cerveza

Just put one of these down. Kit, 1kg LDME with kit yeast. Currently sitting at 24 °C as I do not have a working fridge to brew in. Using the non working fridge as an esky. I would like to dry hop and would like a recommendation. I have Amarillo, cascade and Fuggles in the freezer at the moment...

Jao The Ultimate Beginners Mead Recipe

Bottled mine a week ago. Nice!. Wife says I can do another one. She's the only one who tasted it and I'll not feed it to the kids. Took about 3 months to go clear. If I was doing this to quench my thirst I'd stay with beer. But I had plenty other stuff to drink so no rush. I'll do it again.

    Oatmeal Stout

This has been in the bottle since 1 jan. I took one to mates place yesterday arvo and he was impressed with it. Good head retention slight sweetness at the start and good bitterness in the end. Good mouth feel. The bitterness will diminish slightly as it ages and I am sure that will give me...

Jao The Ultimate Beginners Mead Recipe

I put one down tonight. Small batch in a 2 liter flagon that cost $3.50. Missus is watching what I spend on alcohol related things. This one is for her as she likes desert wines and to try and get her to be a little less antagonistic. 1.7 litre total 700g mixed blossom honey from Aldi (500)ml...

Jao The Ultimate Beginners Mead Recipe

Depends on the type of plastic. Typically water containers are LDPE. Not going to dissolve in even 100% alcohol. However LDPE is not gas tight and so you will get a small and I mean small amount of oxygen getting into your brew. So small that you do not have to worry about it in the slightest...

Non Alcoholic Ginger Beer From Scratch

I do understand that carbing up with yeast will give at least 0.5% alcohol but I would label that as non alcoholic in comparison to 5%. I'll feed 0.5% to my kids without worrying about it but I will not feed them 5%. The missus would be a little annoyed if I did. Thanks for the comments on...

Non Alcoholic Ginger Beer From Scratch

I am wanting to do a non alcoholic ginger beer for the family. Having browsed through a pile of posts. What I have gleaned out of it is: Coopers kits can be too sweet, just right, need lots of additives to make worth drinking. Brigalow gets mostly bad press though one comment was the family...

    Taking Gravity Readings

I only put enough water in my airlock to form a seal it has never sucked back since I started doing that. My first brew I put a lot more water in and moved my fermenter and sucked most of the water in. I did find out how much water to put in my airlock as a result. Used boiled water so I was...

    Oatmeal Stout

Can someone please comment on using Safale s-33 for making an Oatmeal stout with some residual sweetness. Reading here and elsewhere it is a low attenuating yeast that will leave some unfermented sugar in the beer and so some sweetness. I tried surching the forums and have not found much...

    Needed Beer Bottles S.a

I was also in need of bottles. Last night went out for dinner and asked the bar lady to keep me some bottles and came home with a bin bag 3/4 full. I'll be removing labels today and washing ready for sanitation. Ask some local restaurants, I have found more than one who have been more than...

    Oatmeal Stout

Thank you NewtownClown I'll keep your recipe in mind when I do this again. Do you also reduce the volume of the brew? I think the chocolate will be a good addition too. I see I am going to have to upgrade yeasts. Doing some reading about that. I don't live anywhere too near a good HBS so I...

    Oatmeal Stout

Airlock stopped bubling after about 5 days. Kept the fermenter at 18-20 degrees for 2 weeks almost. I checked the gravity. I have a refractometer not a hydrometer. FG calculates at 1.005. This is much lower than I expected. IanH's spreadsheet predicts 1.013. So I expect that that fermentation is...
