    Do Heating Element Burn Bags?

Thanks guys for all the great responses! I've had family staying in the computer room for Christmas, so it's been hard to get to the computer. In response to the person who asked what I make my bags out of, I make them with 100% polyester. Here's a link, if you are interested:Brew Bags -...

    Do Heating Element Burn Bags?

I sew up bags for people here in North America. I had a question given to me regarding biab and using heating elements. I use gas, so I don't have direct experience with it, so I am hoping for some help. I'm planning on using a 5500w ultra low density element to recirc/heat the mash..I've...

    Cold Dunk Sparge?

I've done about five or six BIAB beers here in the US and have had great luck, but I saw a post on a forum here by a guy who dunk sparged with cold water for a few brews and got beers that stayed cloudy each time. I don't think he used whirlfloc, which is what I would attribute the cloudiness...

    Yeast Culturing Equipment

I lucked into finding a 3 liter flask at Goodwill years ago -- it's nice because there is room for the yeast to bubble up on the stir plate without overflowing. I would not worry about autoclaving/pressure cooking. Just dump in half a liter of water and boil for 20 minutes with foil covering...

    Biab Wort Question

What sort of batch size? I did a 21 liter batch I find that the BIAB sweet wort in the kettle can be a bit turbid but after the boil, and using whirlfloc or other Irish Moss type kettle finings, and allowing the trub to settle out well before running off for chilling, the wort that comes out...

    Biab Wort Question

I just did my second BIAB beer yesterday, a dunkelweizen, and it went amazingly well! I was using a new voile bag I made out of polyester curtain material I found and it worked much better than the canvas version I first tried :) (Canvas becomes a better bucket than straining bag when submersed...

    Wyeast Private Collection

I sent the following email to Wyeast's labservices... Can you tell me how many beer brewing yeast strains in total you have available and archived? I think I remember hearing something like 600, but I'm curious after reading someone question why you offer certain popular strains only...

    Wyeast Private Collection

You've got to wonder how many yeast strains they have archived... If they have 600 yeast varieties and they are already brewing up 50 or whatever (wine and beer), it's not surprising they don't make more available... I never do but it would be cool to start ranching the rare strains...

    American Style Wheat Beer

I just brewed a 20% wheat pale ale (I don't know what category it should be in). I wanted to try doing a beer in a week from grain to glass and it turned out pretty good -- a refreshing summer style ale. I used nottingham yeast because it clears fast, not that that matters with all the...

What Are You Aussie's Drinking, Anyway?

I came to this site because I'm interested in BIAB but have enjoyed learning about how you guys do things. It's funny how entrenched people here are about doing things a certain way. Anyway, you've given me some great ideas to try. I just saw this on beervana.blogspot.com and wondered what...
