Removal of Hot/Cold Break and oher Kettle Trub

Again harking back to the article I think the main point is that differences will only be evident if there are two beers compared side by side. Even then it is seems impossible to differentiate between the trub and non trub. Sorry to say it but............RDWHAHB.

Removal of Hot/Cold Break and oher Kettle Trub

Just read the article linked above and it had some interesting results. Good to see no major flaws have been detected by the tasters. Well worth a read. I tend to sometime get a bit cold break in the fermenter so it's put my mind at ease about this happening.

First starter = broken erlenmeyer flask. Any suggestions?

I've shaken a flask with a stirbar in it and managed to put a hole in it. Felt like a bit of a fanny so I'll not be doing that again.....

    Bottlers using gelatine and polyclar

At the moment I can only bottle due to space and refrigeration restraints. For me the main issues has been chill haze and a fair amount of yeast that's isn't compacting and is getting into the glass. Have just gelatined and polyclared my first batch so I'll be really interested in the clarity...

    Bottlers using gelatine and polyclar

Have now just used polyclar and the instructions advised 5 gm in 200 ml of just boiled water until dissolved. This equated to around 2-3 teaspoons but it didn't dissolve. Just seemed to fluff up a bit Is this normal and similar to when others have used it?

    Skip bittering additions with hopstand?

Sorry for previous blank post. Other link - http://byo.com/stories/item/2498-hopbursting-final-gravity-mr-wizard?viewDesktop=true Slightly off thread but in the recipe section I read about the 10 min IPA and adding a bucket load of hops at ten minutes to go. Has anyone tried this?

Overshot OG considerably...already changed but what to do in future.

I'm with everyone else on this one I never used to adjust on my first few BIABs when I never used to hit my numbers and as I was a new brewer I could never really tell if the beer was unbalance due to hitting a lower OG. For me the satisfaction has come in my last four brews in hitting my...

    Skip bittering additions with hopstand?

I reads a really good article in BYO magazine online about 'hop bursting' (which I'm assuming is similar to what you mean) when you add all your hop addition in the last 30-20 mins. I have just done this on a centennial APA by adding hops around every 5 mins at the 30 min mark. Am almost easy...

    Bottlers using gelatine and polyclar

Just used gelatine for the first time and just realised that it smells like ass. The things we do for beer.

    Bottlers using gelatine and polyclar

Got some polyclar so will be trying it at the end of the week. Quick question do any if you guys who bottle filter your beer or is this not needed when using polyclar and bottling?

    Bottlers using gelatine and polyclar

Sorry after re-reading post it makes me look dumb!!! I have been using whirlfoc at the end of the boil as instructed and this has been helping the break coagulate. Am I right in thinking that brewbrite is polyclar/pvpp and irish moss? If this is correct is there a reason why you cant use...

    Bottlers using gelatine and polyclar

I have read about brewbrite but I have been unable to find it in the UK. I have read posts about and the general consensus is that it is is PVPP and irish moss. Can you use normal polyclar alongside whirlfloc instead of using the polyclar later?

    Bottlers using gelatine and polyclar

As the title suggest I am specifically looking for information or opinions from people who have used polyclar or gelatine before bottling their beer whether it was successful or not. I have noticed that alot of my beers have had a fair amount of sediment in them and even by cold crashing alone...

    Brewmate question

Thanks for the replies gentlemen. Yum beer - I realised what you're talking about cause when I started using brewmate i wondered why it never updated as soon as you put a value in. Whitegoose - You've answered my question as I suspected...anything added to the boil even at 5 mins will add some...

    Brewmate question

Had this one in the software section but not getting much response.... I have been using brewmate for my beers when using other peoples recipes and when adding hop additions I have been pretty spot on in hitting the same IBUs as the recipe creator. However, yesterday I have tried to formulate...

    Generations definition

So if you constantly have one vial from the original pack/starter and use this to step up and then split you should always have virgin/1st gen yeast. I hope this is the case cause I worried about getting to 3rd/4th gen and then having to get a new pack to avoid so called mutations. i take it...
