    Fathers day

Not Father's Day in U.K. But I hope OP has fun spazzing out like when they posted.....

    Flavour Profile

But as you said in your initial post it tastes good once it has been bottled and carbonated so I really wouldn't worry if it tastes watery in the fermenter. If you are doing everything right to make a hefe ie proper mash temp, grain and yeast and then it all comes together then keep doing what...

    Flavour Profile

As a Hefeweizen doesn't need much ageing I think it's the high carbonation which changes the mouthfeel and therefore the flavour profile compared to how it is at bottling. Also as its a yeast driven beer the majority of the flavour work has been done in the mash and fermentation stages and as...

    Dry hop with grain bag

I do this too. Cheap enough to use once and then throw away Good if you're lazy and can't be bothered with another brewing thing to clean

Urn not heating to usual temp - what to check first?

Best to get a porcelain wire connecter and use this to join the two wires which are attached to the cut out.

Urn not heating to usual temp - what to check first?

Forgot say - I only bypassed the cut out but kept the fuse. No electrician but someone may advise that this process is incorrect/dangerous. I accept no responsibility for dead brewers. [emoji54]

Urn not heating to usual temp - what to check first?

I'm no expert but I think sometimes the cut will just overheat even if your wort is less than 100c which prevents it from reaching a boil. I had to stir the boiler and almost scrape the element to get it to work. My one kept in making a clicking noise and then the light would change from...

Urn not heating to usual temp - what to check first?

I had this problem once before and I replaced the thermal cut out with a higher temp one but still the problem persisted. I then bypassed the thermal cutoff completely and no issues at all and a nice rolling boil.

    Testing OG

Just remember if your making a kit to give it a really good stir. I didn't once and mistakenly thought I was going to produce a barley wine instead of an average abv beer.

    First lager

The pterodactyl rest is more primitive but known to be more effective, at least a third more.

A case of over-carbonation in bottles!

I wondered who degas was and why he needed to help OP.

    making your own LME

If it was easier and cheaper to do it the OPs way then we would all be doing it that way. But we're not. I say no more.....

    Problems with PET Bottles

Out of all the bottles that you have are some of them more carbonated than others? Normally the last ones from the bottling bucket may be slightly tighter feeling than the rest and slightly full of more crap. When I used plastic after a couple of weeks I would always check all the bottles...

    Problems with PET Bottles

Funnily enough I was just going to post something similar to this. As a uk brewer I started off bottling using coopers 500ml bottles and whilst they were great for the first few brews I noticed later on that they were more prone to slight infections/over carbonation issues. I found they were a...

    Fake lager questions

Thanks for all the replies Was going to go this route for a couple of reasons On one hand I couldn't really be arsed making the big starter required for a lager It's true that I can lager and ferment cool due to my fridge but was really looking for something that could ferment quickly and not...

    Fake lager questions

Hi, I am planning on a fake lager with a SG of around 1.045 and I will ferment with Nottingham. I plan to no chill this and ferment at around 14c. Should I get the wort down to 14c at the time of pitching and should I use two packs of yeast? Scott

    Wort cooling

We have the same 'twangy' kits that you guys do. Agree crossed wires.

    Wort cooling

Use bottled water and keep a couple in the freezer to cool the water and not freeze it. The concept of using actual ice (which is the initial question) especially for a kit seems unnecessary and not a problem I've encountered but again my location gives me benefits that the OP may not have...
