Gage Roads Little Dove - "New World" Pale Ale?

Fortunately I've had the opportunity to sample quite a few lately.... hic! Most agree it's best from the tap. Pretty certain there's a swag of Galaxy in Little Dove. I get a tonne of passionfruit flavour. As it's termed a New World rather than an Australian Pale Ale, I'd also say there's a...

Do You Use Crystal in APAs and IPAs?

I've brewed a few APAs with no crystal but up to 10% Munich. Malt presence without cloying sweetness. IMO it produces a nice APA.

Kegmenter. Are they good to use?

Kegmenter newbie screw-up, again. Dry hopping last night. Accidentally knocked the silicone seal for the lid into the brew. Couldn't fish it out again. Going to have to find a replacement seal somewhere otherwise I'll be siphoning this one out, which kinda defeats the purpose. Bugger!

Kegmenter. Are they good to use?

Information from an American blog on a homebrewers experience with fermenting under pressure and dry hopping. A lot of information to digest. Interested to hear AHB boffins comments, especially on his conclusions about using pressure fermentation techniques to target the beer characteristics...

Kegmenter. Are they good to use?

What's the recommendation on shortening the dip-tube to minimise pushing out trub when pressure transferring from Kegmenter to Corny? Don't want to lose too much beer but prefer minimal trub transferred. After my first ferment in the new Kegmenter yesterday I pushed the beer out (a Bo Pils)...

Changing mash temp for effect - hot weather beers

Hi Manticle, can you suggest rest temps and times that might achieve this? Cheers.

How much beer have you brewed this year

16 x 23L batches so far. 368L. Plus 800L of my Saison brewed at a local brewery, if that counts. My consumption compared to pre-brewing days has tripled! Now that I've got the big beers out of my system time to brew to brew some milds, session beers and Lagers for summer. Something...

    Brewometer

Range is about 3m inside a fridge inside a kegmenter. Oh well, but beats taking frequent hydrometer samples when monitoring a fast lager ferment.

    Brewometer

I hung my heating belt up after it did start to melt plastic when laid on the crisper tray in the fridge. Thanks for the warning. I'll think I'll look at a completely different way to provide heat.

    Brewometer

Have my new brewometer floating on a Bo Pils at the moment. Temp Controller with probe in thermowell is set at 10C, 0.5C hysteresis. Brewometer is consistently reading 7.8C. I'm fermenting under pressure (10psi). Do you think this could be screwing with the Tilt or do I need to calibrate it?

    Favorite hefeweizen yeast / method.

Of the commercial hefe I can get hold of readily Weihenstephaner weissbier is a favourite, like the banana. Not a fan of Paulaner. Sierra Nevada Hefeweizen and Moo Broo Hefe I've found at Dans in the last few months and both had good balance. Still like a Redback but don't seek it out. Have a...

    Favorite hefeweizen yeast / method.

If your looking for banana ester (isoamyl acetate) a good trick I picked up from MHB in another thread is to add a small amount of dextrose (eg. 100g). Apparently yeasties will use this preferentially during the early ferment to throw out plenty of banana. Admittedly I've only done one...

It certainly looks tempting! What we need is smellovision.

    kerr non alcoholic thread.

This thread warms the cockles. Not only entertaining but inspiring to witness how AHB brewers have shepherded Kerr through his transformation from budding beer brewer to ginger plant maestro!

Cleaning a Mash Master Mini Mill

Weevil protein is good for head retention, my go to when I've run out of wheat.

Cleaning a Mash Master Mini Mill

Didn't realise cleaning your mini mill was the done thing. Mine's covered in flour and maybe if I look closely some gunk. No rust that I can see. As the grain milling is pre-boil I can't see contamination being a issue. Prolongs the life of the mill?

    Brewometer

I am wary of uneven heating and inaccurate sensing with belt applied directly to the FV. So I hang my heating belt from a hook inside the fermenting fridge. You could do the same inside a cupboard if you don't use a fridge. I use a temp. controller with the temp probe insulated and applied to...

    Brewometer

Just dropped the cash on a Brewometer/Tilt. Now the wait of three weeks! The range for the Bluetooth is quoted as 25ft. I ferment in stainless steel inside a fridge. Does anyone have confirmation of the practical range? I hope to keep my IPad in the bedroom which is above the Garage...
