Oops, I've Ended Up With Caramalt Rather Than Malt. What's The

Thanks RobboMC, in that case sounds like it should be alright. :) The plan as of purchasing my bits yesterday is: 1.5KG Morgan's Master Malt - Caramalt Amber 15g Fuggles @ 30mins 15g Willamette @ 20mins 15g Willamette @ 10mins S-04 Yeast Total ferment size: 10L Nice an' simple and will be my...

Oops, I've Ended Up With Caramalt Rather Than Malt. What's The

hmmm, so that made me go and see if they had a website to have a look at. Well it turns out according to the website they have two varieties of LME: Morgan's Unhopped; and Morgan's Master Blend For the 'Morgan's Master Blend Caramalt' it is indeed "60% Caramalt grain and 40% Pale Barley malt...

Oh, so the 'amber' bit is not due to any amber malt, just the look?

That sounds yum, is it a strong difference?

Oops, I've Ended Up With Caramalt Rather Than Malt. What's The

So I went to the LHBS planning to buy 1.5kg of Amber DME, after chatting to the bloke I've walked out with 1.5kg of LME Caramalt Amber (Morgan's Master Malt Extract - Caramalt Amber). I'm planning to brew a real simple (just this lot of extract and a collection of hops) amber ale, how will this...

Using Store Bought Ice To Reduce Wort Temp

and further to that fill the water bath with a bag of ice and some salt to drop the temp of the bath even lower for quicker cooling.

Using Store Bought Ice To Reduce Wort Temp

I'm about to (hopefully this week-end) do my first full volume boil extract brew (also at 10L). So what are you saying you do _after_ you poor your wort into the 10L cube? Thanks! P

    Sg At Boil Quandary

hmmm, and when I think about it, that's not too different to what happens with a K&K brew method (after all, the can contents have been boiled etc, but the added fermentables haven't been), and that works fine... yeah, nice, guess I was just over thinking it. Cheers. ;)

    Sg At Boil Quandary

Ahhhh, I just went back to the notes page on IanH's spreadsheet and now see: Hmmm, interesting.... But that seems to be the answer I needed... Other than I'm not sure whether it matters about that left over amount of extract not going through a hot break or being part of the full hop process... :/

    Sg At Boil Quandary

Thanks HB79 and iScarlet, they both sound like great ideas. @Hb79 - I'm going for 10L, but I guess I could still go for about 14/15L and just count on evaporation. :) @iScarlet - Yeah, I saw the suggestions down the bottom there, but seeing they were less than the total amount of DME I planned...

    Sg At Boil Quandary

Hey mate, Ahhh, the concentration thing is kinda a secondary question. I have one piece of software, but it's telling me to enter the evaporation percentage, and I have no idea what that is... :/ It also asks for volume an SG which I obviously know, but without the evaporation rate I'm stuck...

    Sg At Boil Quandary

I'm planning to do my first extract only brew (no kit, no grains, just extract). The plan is to not follow a recipe so as to be able to figure it out for myself (based on theory) and then enjoy the result and improve on it. I'm also planning to just stick with one fermentable and no steeped...

Brewcraft Pale Ale Converter - Any Thoughts?

hmmm, just a few thoughts for you. Maybe for a future brew use the following - Coopers Australian Pale Ale Kit; and - Coopers Brew Enhancer 2 Plus on the cost thing, I did a recent rough calculation for the brew I currently have on (which is the above plus I'm trying S-04 yeast just to see)...

    Tap Cleaning After Hydrometer Readings

Thanks for the replies everyone. It seems there is a general consensus to clean (or at least sanitize) the tap after sampling so that it stays in good nick for bottlin' time. So think I'll go with that idea. Cheers!

    Tap Cleaning After Hydrometer Readings

I was wondering how many people clean their tap after taking their hydrometer readings, and more so, how they go about it? Rinse with a glass of hot water and then spray with no-rinse sanitizer? hmmm, or should the santizer be sprayed before taking the reading (just to be sure nothing creeps in...
