I have done the same. I think you get the cans nice and fresh direct from Coopers, they definitely deteriorate with age.

Phosphoric sanitiser (Starsan) can be re-used if pH is below 3, it should be free from debris as you only use after cleaning for sanitising. High pH cleaners such as sodium percarbonate may have debris from cleaning and sodium percarbonate breaks down quickly.
