Greetings all,
Am planning a simple pale ale - Coopers Pale Ale tin, 1kg LDM, 200 caramunich or medium grain.
Hops are simcoe and amarillo - just wondering how much of each for a hoppy ale? I haven't used simcoe before...
Any thoughts?
Cheers
MOD: Edited by Lord Raja Goomba I to insert description at top of topic. Original post below:
Am just wondering if anyone has experiences/thoughts of Warrior hops?
Can they be used for flavour/aroma rather than just bittering?
cheers
I am planning bottling tonight (Coopers 740ml PET), usually use two Coopers carb drops per bottle.
Am certain I don't have enough drops for the 30 bottles, but I can't get to a shop today and unlikely to get to one for the next week or so due to work.
Any advice/theories on how much dextrose...
Have done a few porters, not sure if they fall into the choc porter category, but they're super easy to make with nice results:
Coopers English Bitter can
300-350g choc malt
200g crystal grain
100-150g roasted barley
1kg LDM
Made to 21 litres, OG around 1050-1052, FG around 1012-1015
cheers
I have an 'Authentic IPA' (Coopers website recipe) on the go - Coopers IPA can, 1kg LDM, 500g dex, US05 yeast, 20 litres.
It's 10 days in, FG has dropped from an opening 1054 to 1009 (stable reading for couple of days).
But the krausen hasn't collapsed, is still 2-3cm thick and up to 5cm thick...
Yep, have done it twice, kit version, can recommend it.
First used 30g cascade, was nice. Second used 50g motueka, even nicer!
Certainly gets near to the real Coopers ESVA taste (well, as near as a kit can, I reckon, but am no expert).
cheers
admirable ambition!!
go to the coopers website, check out the extra strong vintage ale recipe...won't be all your seeking, but you won't be disappointed, as long as you can wait 6 months for it to mature!
cheers
Cheers again, thanks for your feedback. Am not really seeking to thin out, more about the flavour for me.
And off topic completely, but any seriously successful KnB recipes for darker beers (ie EB, porter, stouts) you recommend? Particularly interested in the grains you mentioned to enhance a...
