So Wot's The Story Behind The Handles

Fergie's just short for Ferguson. Fergie is normally already taken on forums so just add my first initial. Not very exciting.

    Sterilising Bottle Tops

A grown man is about to cry, I had a nice pale ale that has slowly turned sour (light film floating on top of bottle). I sterilise everything except my bottle tops. What do you guys do? Do you sterilise bottles tops before capping? This is about the only thing that I think could have...

    Introduce Yourself.

Hey Fiscus, maybe this should be a separate area in the forums? I've enjoyed reading about other members backgrounds. I'm Fergie, been brewing on and off for 8 years but have only really got into in the last 18 months. I like trying different brews and have just started to partial mash and will...

    Floaty Bits?

well, After another week or so conditioning the floaty bits have disappeared or settled out. I think it must be yeast residue only. Had me worried though :D

    Secondary Fermentation

I'm new to racking and am getting a bit confused! Do most of you rack to a second fermenter or do you rack to a 22 litre bucket as "Jovial" describes? I'm going to keep experimenting but don't want to end up with a bad batch of beer.

    Floaty Bits?

Indy, They dissolved when I poured it so I would say thay are soft. I am begining to think it is some type of sugar residue or yeast residue (see boots comments). Boots, This is the first time I racked to a secondary, so the beer was cyrstal clear except for the white floaty bits.

    Floaty Bits?

No, dextrose for this brew, I normally use coopers carbonation drops.

    Floaty Bits?

Help, I just checked out my Coopers Pale Ale that I bottled two weeks ago and it has white floaty bits in the neck of the bottle. Its not a milky film so I don't think its micro-derm infection. I opened one bottle and although not fully carbonated tasted ok (just a little green). If it...

    Brewing Technique

I'm interested to know everyone's brewing style. For me its extract brewing and just starting into partial mash. (I'm still a wet behind the ears rookie brewer)

    Easter Brewing

Just racked a Coopers Pale Ale, kept it simple as it is the first time I have tried racking to a secondary fermenter. Have to see how it goes, had troudle keeping the temp down during the primary fermentation. Tasted Ok on a test when racking. Hope everyone has a safe easter holiday period.

    Chilli Beer

 whoa, I'm blowing smoke from my ears, that was hot!!!!!! I just tried the mexican chilli beer and it was way, way to hot, and I like hot and spicy food. I did like the flavour and will try this again with smaller chillies. Looks like I will be looking for chilli beer food recipes so...

    Leaving Brwew In Fermenter

My job requires me to be away for 8 days or more every two weeks, I normally put down a brew when I leave home and bottle when I return. So far so good. Has anyone had bad experiences leaving a brew in a frementer for too long after fermenting has stopped?

To Lager Or Not To Lager, That Is The Question

Ken, Thanks for the reply, I did try and send you an e-mail (don't know if it got to you?). I would be interested in your recipe. I have read some horror stories about lagers and was hoping to get as much info before I put one down. Thanks Jay
