Trub won't settle after cooling wort

Thanks for the tips I will remember it. This freaked me out and I thought whirlpooling would not help. The husks are from a hole in my bag. Just about to retire this one.

Trub won't settle after cooling wort

Thanks for your comment. I have brewed about 15 times and I have never seen anything like this before. Colder winter wwater in my chiller maybe? I am in Brisbane so usually the tap water for the chiller is warmer but I have brewed lasrt winter too.. Actually only concerned if this could harm my...

Trub won't settle after cooling wort

I usually do but didn't bother this time as these globules were not going to sink. I don't know what break is because I never had this before. I always just get loose trub which is like a miso soup at the bottom of my kettle, which I still also had this time but the globules are new.

Trub won't settle after cooling wort

I had a new problem when biab brewing on the weekend I have never seen before. After chilling my wort down there was a fair amount of trub that had formed floating globules that would not sink to the bottom (pics attached - glare and flecks on top make it difficult but in the first pic you can...

    Need help fixing my font

Yes, you got it! There is definitly a significant difference there. Glad I am not going mad. With the C spanner as it came to me I could not even turn a top tap nut one sixth before hitting the other tap.

    Need help fixing my font

Well it was a successful operation. Had to pretty much mutilate that Krome C spanner to make it work (picture attached). I overdid trimming down one of the arms and in the final stages of tightening the rear tap nuts up with the thought in mind of never having to do this again I pushed too far...

    Need help fixing my font

Not sure what you are widening? The C spanner fits the nuts but is very snug. Do you mean you are widening the mouth of the C spanner so it is not so snug? The problem is that I cannot even undo a single one of the top nuts. One of the photos show the spanner on the nut but I cannot even turn...

    Need help fixing my font

I have a problem with one of my font taps being loose. My font has 3 taps and it is the middle one. I need to somehow tighten the nut inside the font but don't know what I can do to tighten it. I bought a Krome font spanner from CraftBrewer which is also where I got the Krome font from...

    Fermentation seems stopped at SG1.02

Thank you this is a noob mistake! I only just bought the refractometer and did not realise the alcohol affects it... I did the correction using this page http://onebeer.net/refractometer.shtml and that pretty much agrees with you MaltyHops. I also just took a sample with my hydrometer and it...

    Fermentation seems stopped at SG1.02

How many degreess would you recommend for warming it up? I have made it before but it was one of my first AG brews and I cannot remember too much of the detail but it was a nice beer to drink. I am pretty sure it was in the normal finishing range, but I think this was befre I had the...

    Fermentation seems stopped at SG1.02

I'm brewing a cascade pale ale biab and post boil sg was 1.043. When I started fermentation I only had pretty old packets of safale 05. The expiry was november but I always had them fridged. Anyways, the fermentation was a bit slow to take off. It was a full day before I saw any bubblng and...

brew infected - help with the post mortem please

Ahh well this has been very enlightening and makes a lot of sense. For some reason I had the idea that being just booiled and then cubed and sealed it would be ok. Seems I made a fundamental error but at least I am confident this is the problem and I would be willing to cube again! Thanks so...

brew infected - help with the post mortem please

Yeh I did pretty much did exactly that I'm not sure the exact temp but in summer the Brisbane tap water I run through the chiller is about 25 degrees so getting it much lower than 40degrees takes a long time so I thought I would stop there and let it naturally cool the rest. How does this cause...
