Ibu Calcs In Beersmith, What's Going On?

Hi, Going back to the original post, this is actually a recently found bug in BeerSmith. The overall IBU number is correct, but when you use late extract additions, I forgot to go back and correct the various IBU additions for the individual hops to account for the late addition. It was...

Can I Change Font In Beersmith Reports?

Hi, Yes you can change the fonts. Go to the templates directory and take a look at some of the recipe HTML templates (end in *.htm). If you make a copy of one of these files and edit it you can make your own template file. Then go to the Options dialog (Tools menu) and then to the Reports...

    Beersmith Data

Hi, This one's my fault - it should read $$ per hundred grams (which is what I intended, but did not correctly enter), so $40 for 500g would be $8 per 100g. Enter $8 and you will be fine. Somehow I coded in "cg" when I intended 100g (or hecto-grams). I'll correct it on the next version. Brad

    Round Vs Square Mush Tuns

Hi, If you do a lot of fancy math, for a small system of the size most homebrewers use having the grain depth and width about equal is good - which is why the cylindrical Gott type coolers are popular. They also tend to have fewer hot spots while mashing. Ideally one would also like an...

    Beersmith Data

BYB, I would love to add Bairds - do you have the full malts reference page or (even better) have them entered into BeerSmith BSM format?? If so, I can add them to the web site for all to enjoy. Cheers, Brad

    Crushed Grain Question

Hi, I've had some personal experience with bad grains...they tend to oxidize once crushed. Putting them in a plastic bag does not help much since plastic bags are poor oxygen barriers. Heat accelerates the oxidization. I would say a few weeks if stored in a cool dry place. If you plan...

    Mashed Too Low?

MFS, Yes, the conversion temp can have a significant effect on the body of your beer. See the graph on this article for an idea of how much attenuation difference you can expect. The cidery impression may not be directly related to the mash temp - and could be caused by several other...

    Help With A Wheat Beer

Hi, Here's a quick article I put together on wheat beers recently. You can use regular yeast, but you will get something close to an American style wheat beer than a Bavarian or Berliner style wheat. Which you prefer is up to you! Cheers, Brad

    Beersmith Data

Hi, If you don't have the BJCP styles selected by default, you can change the style guide on the "Brewing" tab of the Options dialog (tools menu). Also - we hope to have the Australian style guide available pretty soon. I'll post it on the support page as soon as it becomes available...

    Very Slow Start

I had one slow start that took four days but then suddenly took off. It is unusual, however. Make sure you are pitching yeast at the proper rate and using a properly sized starter. Cheers, Brad
