Brose's 3V Build Process

A proposed step-by-step outline of how I'll run the rig.
Nice looking setup.

I looked at doing the herms cool in the hlt when I was designing my system the problem is raising your hlt temp fast enough to do step mashes.

Check out my system in my gallery. If you need any help I'm on the Bayside of brisbane.

Set-up looks good. Really similar to mine. However, during cooling, I fill my MLT with ice and water and throw the HEX coil in the kettle. The ice in the MLT eventually floats, but at first I have heaps of ice, so the false bottom stops is from going through the pump - nifty ;-) I found the heat transfer during cooling more effective this way, and it means my pump is clean from recirculating nothing but ice cold water through it (I gravity fill my fermenters). It does however mean I don't whirlpool - but whirlpooling isn't even necessary imo.

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback!
I've just finished my uni exams for this semester (mixed results haha, too much beerlust) and am hoping to start ordering parts this weekend, to build over my break :D

I just realised I really should have looked at people's galleries when drawing these up, because it took me agges, based of reading tons of forum posts/youtube videos/google images and bits of info from multiple sources tacked together. Here it's just in a gallery screenshot haha

@Nathan- your setup is massive! I haven't really looked into doing step mashes yet, but I do want to make sure the rig can suit most future needs... I'm still pondering the best way to setup temperature control for it too; whether to KISS first few batches with a stc-1000 or to just straight to a control panel. If I go for a panel, super keen to integrate a computer/ipad as the interface for it somehow...

@Putrino- I was planning on that too until I thought of the whirlpool, and then I realised you could just use a spoon (so changed it back), and then I decided that pumping into the fermentor will give me the change to churn it up and aerate the wort heaps (redraw again haha). I think I'll see how it goes like that and if the chilling is too painful swap it around a bit and see what works best.

Edit: I'm also now reconsidering my first insulation idea, which was to glue layers of insulation wool and aluminium foil together, cut to shape, and stuff into a blanket cover. :beerbang:
Tassie oak is sexy...
