I am looking for some info from anyone who knows about the john guest connectors. I have just put my new beer font together and needed to extend the beer lines to reach my chest freezer. To do this I used Equal Straight connector - OD 5/16 (8mm)(John Guest) then when I went to test which line went to which tap, water pissed out everywhere. I used water instead of beer for this exact reason of course.

Now am I missing something with these things or do I just put the beer line into each side. Also if I have the water under too much pressure will this affect the way these work?

Any help is appreciated.

Cheers

HK,
i have just bought one from Ross. I think you just put the line in about 10mm and pull on it. If that doesn't work then pm Ross. I am sure he will know.
Cheers :chug:

HK it sounds like you haven't 'engaged' the line into the connector sufficently. When pushing the line in you should feel some inital resistance then it should 'slip' in deeper. Make sure your line is free from scores/ scratches and ragged edges. I use some of these for my water filter at mains pressure with no problems at all.
Happy inserting :p

Yeh just make sure you push it all the way in...

About 10mm is pretty much correct..

NOTE* 5/16 and 8mm are universal...but dont try to put a 10mm line in a 3/8 fitting...well you can just dont expect to pull it out ever again.. oopsy..

Sqyre... ;)

I had a leeking one some weeks back it worked fine one day i removed it to change some stuff around and put it all back together only to find beer leaking out all over the place.

I did not pay enough attenion to it and left it for a few hours and beer went every where.

I had managed to scratch the side of it like said in a above post and that was enough for it to leek so once cutting of some hose all has been great since.

Good point there lokpikin..

The JG fittings have stainless steel teeth that grip the tube...so well in fact they will hold onto copper tube just as well as plastic if not better.

So as you can imagine those little teeth will rip the **** out of your tube if you dont hold the release ring back properly when you pull the line out.

And its a top idea to trim your line back about 10mm each time you disconnect - reconnect. or at least every once in a while anyway.

(i feel better now)

Wow,

Thanks for all the help guys. It seems that the problem has been solved. I was not really aware that the lines coming from my font were slightly smaller than the beer line supplied and intended for the JG connections. Unfortunately to alieviate this problem I have purchased some S/S barbs to connect the lines. (Thanks Ross for the call to highlight the possible and in the end small problem.)

So it seems there is nothing wrong with these great little connections. Just a small overlook by me. :p

As for WW3 starting on this thread, makes for a good laugh. Certainly not what I was expecting when asking for help.

Once again thanks guys...

Lets all go enjoy a fresh frosty beer. :chug:

Cheers
