    Black Rock Lager... Disappointed.

Ok.. thanks... I'll hang onto them and try again around Xmas... should I keep them in the fridge at 12c or is it Ok to pull them out and store them in the house (Canberra, gets pretty damn hot). j.

    Black Rock Lager... Disappointed.

Sorry Fourstar, I'd have to go check my log; from memory it's about 50% LME, 50% Dex plus a little corn syrup... but I'd have to check the log notes to be sure. Is 12c Ok for lager? That's what my research said but ask 5 home brewers that question and expect 12 answers... all very confusing :-)

    Black Rock Lager... Disappointed.

Sorry... "horrible" isn't very useful is it... It's sweet and sickly... and maybe, yes, I might be tasting the caster sugar, but almost no hop taste or bitterness... a bit of malt smell, but no taste (if that makes sense). There is pressure in the bottle (I'm using PET) but virtually no...

How Long For S23 To Start?

Hi guys, I'm trying my first lager, got my temp-mate hooked up and am doing a straight Black Rock Lager with S-23 lager yeast. Put it down on Sunday afternoon.... pitched at 18c and set the temp mate to bring the fridge down to 12 which took most of the night... With an Ale I'd expect to see...

    Muntons Yorkshire Bitter - Fg?

Hi guys, I'm doing my 2nd brew, Muntons Yorkshire Bitter. I started it on the 12th April with a gravity of 1.051. It bubbled away well for a few days at an average temp of 19c, then I had to go away for a bit and have just now returned. No sign of activity in the fermenter at all... and it's...

Total Time In Fermenter... Is There A 'too Long' ?

Hi guys, Got my second brew down... Munton's Yorkshire Bitter... going much better than the first... mostly due to the favourable weather, brew temp is stable at 19c with little mucking around from me... active bubbling and froth after 8 hours... all good. I need to go OS on business for...

    Boil K&k ?

Thanks guys... so if doing a straight K&K, just do like it says on the lid, no need or benefit gained from boiling. cheers. Jerry

    Boil K&k ?

Hi guys, I've been listening to a few homebrew pod-casts lately and have noticed that these guys (US based) all boil the wort even for Extract / K&K brews. Why? None of the kit instructions I've read elsewhere suggest boiling... Does boiling it noticeably change the character of the resulting...

    Cleaning Fermenter Between Brews

Hi guys, After my first brew I (thought) I had cleaned out my fermenter pretty well... scrubbed it clean and sterilized, then threw all the small bits in, screwed the lid back on and stored it... I got home after a few weeks away last night and pulled the fermenter out... was quite surprised...

    Have I Buggered It Up?

Ok... Thanks Dave... a bit late however :-) She's strong alright... got a real buzz going after 3/4 of a bottle... but yes, does have a very funny taste... I can see that one of the next challenges is going to be acquiring a whole new vocabulary to help describe beer tastes... the first...

    Have I Buggered It Up?

I started the brew on Jan 8th, Fermentation was evident on the 9th and I left it in until the 24th... so around 13/14 days total... I got the fermenter temp down to 24c before adding the Yeast, which I hydrated for a couple of hours in cool boiled water. The fermenter stayed within a degree...
