Coopers Kits Is There Any Difference

Nothing wrong with any of the Coopers range. I use all three levels. The basic ones with honey added are a nice Summer beer. The International series are good allrounders. The Thomas Cooper range (esp Pilsner) are good to make in Winter and store for 6 months or more.

    Fermenting Finished?

Tonight had three PET bottles of European Lager I bottled 27 June 2010. Excellent. The best of the three brews of this type I have done. Much better tasting now than it was 6 months ago.

    Lumpy Brew

My experience is that this happens when you add too much to the water too quickly. Put the water in first, then add dextrose/malt etc in small batches as you stir. Then add the can.

    Honey Hops

For the past 2 years I have been regularly making beer using honey. However, I use either Coopers Real Ale, Coopers lager or Coopers Draught with about 500 g of honey. I have used mass supermarket honey, premium honey and honey straight from an apiarist. I add no extra dextrose. The results...

    Random Beer

My comments: - a lot of sugar (all types) - European Lager appears to need temperatures closer to 11C to taste okay rather than the temperatures we have had lately - may have been enough with just the honey based on my experience with using honey Hope it comes out okay.

    Bottles Bottles Bottles

Only use Coopers 700ml PET bottles (apart from kegs). So far have not lost one due to loss of gas. Have made 40 brews so far. Some have been over a year old when I had the last bottle, no loss in fizz or gone off. Still using the same caps as when first purchased.

    Honey?

I use honey a lot in my beers. I use it to replace dextrose/sugar/malt. I do not think it leaves a "honey" taste, but it certainly adds flavour to the beer.

    Why.....

I really think you just filled one too many bottles. Of all the 40 brews I have now done, I have only had two bad bottles, both of which I know I pushed too far to get an extra bottle.

    Recipe For Beginner

As I mentioned in the topic I started last week, I have found that using honey instead of destrose for the Coopers Lager, Draught and Real Ale produces a very nice beer. Try a specific type of honey (eg red gum) rather than the mixed types. I add only about 500 g and still get about 5% alcohol...

    My Experience So Far

Thanks for all the comments. Sorry for the delay in responding, have been away for a few days. All have been made using the standard yeasts. Again, I have no plan to change. Yes, the European Lager was done in Summer, so that may be the problem. I might try again in Winter when it will be a...

    My Experience So Far

Since I started brewing almost two years ago, I have completed 39 brews. Of these, all but two have been Coopers kits. The two fancier ones were supposed to be clones but tasted nothing like what they were supposed to and were disappointing. Most of my brews are kegged, but every now and again I...

    Adding Honey To Kit?

I made a Coopers Real Ale with 500g honey and 200g dextrose. Tried it a week ago and it is great. Not one person who has tried it has not loved it.
