    Cold / Hot Break Trub

So how to avoid hot break going into your fermenter with a BrewZillla gen 4? Drain in the Center of the curved bottom. Do I need to put a ball valve into the side?

    Cooling Wort

Chiming in with a couple of questions. 1. Hot break in a BrewZilla. I’m using a Gen 4 which has a semi conical bottom with the drain in the middle.Because of this, I assume that the hotbreak ends up in my cubes. I pretty much drained the bruise Zillah. Is this a problem? And how could you...

    Upside down fridge as kegerator

Well, the job is done. Ended up going with four taps on this fridge. It took two guys to find a clearance in the side wall for my gas line. Added an iPad to the front to display what’s currently on tap.

Thanks for those numbers. They look pretty similar to what I was aiming for. Next brew day will be the 28th - going to carefully measure the volumetric scale in my Brewzilla.

    Verdant IPA

Is there any chance the volumetric scale inside the BrewZilla is incorrect? Today I tried another brew. Used a recipe I’m much more familiar with - LCBA clone. Done it many times BIAB - today tried a double batch in the BrewZilla. Good numbers throughout the brew. Right up until I transferred...

    Upside down fridge as kegerator

Well, I can’t find a way through from underneath or from near the compressor. Think I’m just going to drill a hole in the side wall of the fridge the way I’ve done every other fridge before this. I’ve drilled through the plastic from the inside, and cleared the foam and had a good poke around...

Sound like a plan. Let’s see if we get lucky!

    Upside down fridge as kegerator

Holy resurrected thread Batman. It’s been a crazy year, and I never got round to building this fridge. Planning to have a crack at it tomorrow so I’ve got beer in time for Christmas. Just wondering if you’ve got any tips on where to start poking around to find this grommet. Keen not to drill...

I’m also dialling in a new (MillMaster) grain mill at the moment. I used to use a fine crush for my BIAB days. Now with the BrewZilla, after a couple of stuck sparges, I’ve gone quite coarse. Not sure if the roller gap, but I’ve basically gone as coarse as possible while ensuring every kernel is...

    Verdant IPA

Thanks for the offer. Next time I’m in Victoria I might take you up on that. Cheers, Alex.

Hi Mark - thanks for all those suggestions. I didn’t know you could buy brewing oats. I’ll have to look at that at my LHB next time I shop. Meanwhile, I guess rolled oats are the way forward to get that silky oat impact. I’ll try the slow temperature rise as well like you suggested. Cheers, Alex

    Verdant IPA

I normally do 60 minute boils. This is only the second time I’ve tried a 30 minute boil. Was wanting to see if I noticed a difference in the outcome.

I have the Bluetooth thermometer so that I can measure temperature at the top of the malt pipe as well as the built-in.

    Verdant IPA

I do wonder about the mixing. Once you put the top plate in the malt pipe you can’t easily stir the mash. The recirculation pump is going the whole time, but there could be channeling. Back in my BIAB days I had no recirculation so I tended to give the mash a good stir every 10-15 minutes...

Sorry for the change of account - I somehow ended up with two logins to AHB.

    Verdant IPA

Yes. Used a calculator to adjust for temperature. Most readings were taken two or three times to confirm. Brewhouse efficiency is set at 75%. Although I’m not sure how dialled in that is yet, as I have only done 6 or 8 brews with the Brewzilla. Before that I have about 120 BIAB brews done in a...

    Connecting Millmaster to drill

I don’t know if the mill I’m using is a MillMaster. I got it secondhand. It only seems to have a crankshaft on one side of the mill. I thought it was just a keg land dual roller mill.

    Connecting Millmaster to drill

I’ve just bought the Detroit mixing drill. Good torque. Nice low speed. BUT, I’m using the chuck to attach it to the driveshaft on my mill, and cannot get it to grip securely. I tightened the chuck using the supplied chuck key as tight as it would go, and rotated the drill multiple times...

    Upside down fridge as kegerator

Hi all. I’ve just moved house and, as part of the process, sold my old DIY kegerator which was built from a cheap fridge I got off Gumtree. I’ve now got an upside down Fisher & Paykel fridge with French doors that I’m considering converting. The nice thing is that it holds 6 kegs and the...

    KegLand Questions and Answers

I'm back in - but for about an hour it wouldn't load for me :( I've only just started using a RAPT temperature controller a week ago and so far have had no issues. Is the RAPT platform normally pretty reliable? Thanks
