Morning all, I'm in a bit of a bind and need some help if possible... I've come up to Mackay to visit family for Xmas and brought 2 kegs with me.... sounds great, except I forgot to bring my Pluto guns with me!! Just wondering if I can have a lend of a Pluto or picnic tap for the week that...

    1V electric homebuild

Dunno how much volume it takes to cover my element, but it really doesn't matter. You will be using at least 15-20l for the mash anyway. If you're concerned about it, you can just bend the element lower anyway. I also recommend getting a 19l bigW pot to use as a grain basket, cheap as chips and...

    Pre-Boiling water?

It will **** it up royally. Someone more knowledgeable than I can explain the mechanism, but chlorine in your brewing water ends up as chlorophenols in the beer which gives a beautiful taste of band aid, which doesn't dissipate with conditioning. I run my brisbane water through a two stage...

Possible cheaper alternative to Star San?

Star-san is already seriously cheap, I'm nowhere near finishing the only bottle I have ever bought. Considering star san is already so well proven, why would you bother looking for a cheaper riskier alternative? If you're looking to save money, starsan isnt the place to start looking. Sent...

    New to AGB. Equipment suggestions.

If you have a keg, cut the top off, fit a tap to the bottom, then get a 'swiss voile' bag, this can just be a flat bit of 'swiss voile' from spotlight if you want (which is actually easer to clean). Then with a gas burner you have yourself all the kit you need to brew full volume BIAB no-chill...

    Using wheat in pale ale

I put a minimum 5-10% wheat in most beers to aid head retention.

    Forgot bittering hops

Yeah definitely isohop... boiling hops in water wouldn't be great, hop utilisation is affected by wort gravity, the further you stray from 1040 in either direction rhe worse it gets.... Depending on time, I would brew again, considering the occasion, I wouldn't want to chance a ****** result...

Not sure what I've created: Planet Fuggles IIPA

You probably won't taste the fuggles, fresh galaxy will stomp all over them, especially considering how old they are. You will also be dealing with a **** ton of harsh bitterness having used galaxy so early in the boil. It's a lesson I learned the hard way....

WTB - Growler filler fitting for Intertap

I just put mine in the fridge, then it's the same temp as the beer... If you don't have flow control taps (like me), turn the pressure on the reg right down before you pour.

WTB - Growler filler fitting for Intertap

There's really no need, you can just jam a piece of silicone hose over the normal nozzle and away you go.

    Little Creatures Pale Ale

Coincidental that you raise this beer, as I too had a glass at a pub the other week and was pleasantly surprised. Hoppy and balanced was the description on the tap handle, and I couldn't agree more! I reckon some detail is definitely left out of the malts that they specify. 20% Munich and 9-10%...

Ever had a beer you thought was infected but turned out great?

You are running a gauntlet with that level of cleaning so it's not surprising you've copped an infection. My fermenters get washed with hot (60deg) caustic soda after every use, some may say this is overkill, but I dropped way too many batches to infection before I started doing it, since then...

    Too hot to Brew ?

You don't even need to spend any money on a fridge. Just search free fridge on gumtree, it won't be pretty but who cares. I have four fridges, I paid $20 for one, the rest were free. They all work.
