Seals rather well, the feet put a bit of extra pressure that helps it conform.

Here is mine. I ended up putting large stainless washers around the o rings to stop them poping out under any more than hand torque. Made it with an angle grinder (cut and flap disc), die grinder but mainly rats tail file, because the die grinder bit was stuffed.

Have it at the same pressure/purged before you start, go slow in the beginning. It is generally clean but brewing brings out the catastrophe in me.

Using an airlock isn't a good way of knowing what is going on, dissolved co2 and temperature fluctuations give bubbles. Get your hydrometer out and get some real figures. If it has been going since April, it should be done. How will you be packaging the cider? Once in the final packages...
