    Flaked Wheat For Belgian Witbier

well the brewday went off without a hitch. saved myself a bit of time only cracking 1.4kg of grain, threw in broken up weetbix and oats (10L ferment). ended up with about 85% efficiency which im happy with. sparge was a little slow to come out of the bag with all that breakfast cereal in...

    Flaked Wheat For Belgian Witbier

Hi all, last night I went shopping in the cereal isle for some ingredients for a witbier type beer i am brewing tonight. So I couldn't find any plain old wheat, torrified wheat or flaked wheat. I did end up getting some non descript wheat breakfast cereal. So the weetbix brand includes sugars...

    First Ag, Og Bump/mashout

I have only done 2 AG brews at this stage, but I found by bottling and drinking my poor efficiency low gravity beer, my willingness and drive to increase efficiencies has increased ten-fold. My second brew increased by 10% by taking a bit of extra time with crushing in a dodgy blender (now...

    Brewpal Colour Settings

Clay, I also use that app, found that I couldn't change *L to EBC. If im not mistaken, a *L point is about half of an EBC point. So just double the *L you have and it should be close enough to the EBC. Have you been using the app long? I found the sparge amounts meant I had to boil for 90...

Last Nights Biab Effort - Low Og

I ground the malt using a little blender type jobbie, as per the $30 biab thread, gound it fine enough I think...? I was using the method in Palmers book about achieving different bodies in the beer, different temps and rest times at those temps. Obviously got something wrong there.

Last Nights Biab Effort - Low Og

Hi guys and girls. I tried to brew up a SMaSH last night as my second AG attempt. All went well except amount of water my brewing software advised and had to do a 90 minute boil to get rid of some water. seems I should have boiled longer as with my 10L batch, using 2.2K of Perle ale malt I...

Brew Pal Iphone App/ Sparge Rates Etc

Maybe I have underestimated the boil off. I might give it a go as per the instructions and see how it ends up. I have also noticed it has instructions and calcs for mash rests for dual or tripple rest periods. I have read the Palmer instructions and based on that info im going to have a crack...

Brew Pal Iphone App/ Sparge Rates Etc

Thanks for the reply's. Still more questions however. So from the above im stuck with 17L - 1L/kg of grain (2.5L) = 14.5L. Allowing for some boil off of around 10% from what I understand, im still left with the 13.1L after boil. No complaints if I can get more beer, but wont my OG be off now...

Brew Pal Iphone App/ Sparge Rates Etc

Hi guys, using macs most brewing software doesn't cooperate with me, so I bough this app for $0.99. First couple of recepies I have entered it is really handy and feels like IanH spreadsheet. So I can recommend it. You can enter new grains and such, only let down for the new AG brewer is the...

    Biab Beer Designer Spreadsheet

Hi Ian, this thing is awesome. Just a quick question... How do you save recepies? I have a mac at home and use the work computer as least I can so macros are a bit beyond me. So if you could, a little walk through would be very much appreciated for the windows based PC at work. Cheers mate...

    First Biab

Thanks Argon. Jeezuz... So what im reading there is prep the mash with the above ingredients, which will leave you at 4.16L after the boil. There seems to be some fancy lingo and process im sure, but is this just topped up to the 9L mark in the fermenter or is there a process to bring it up...

    First Biab

Can anyone give a quick recipe for an amber ale style beer? I mean weight in Kilo's for the grains, im not up to measuring the %ages yet. Enough to do 1 Carton so I can get the process worked out a bit more... I have to get this kit out of one of my fermenters to free it up to try another...

    First Biab

Yeah I mashed for an hour, boiled for an hour... Good to hear that it's not ruined. Now to find a HBS with a bit more of a grain selection. By the way, the yeast had'nt started working overnight, I think this morning it was starting to kick off as the airlock was starting to move. I hope...

    First Biab

Hi Guys, I have been reading a lot lately about homebrew and started to get back into it. I did a kit a few weeks ago adding some hops and cracked crystal so waiting another 2 weeks for this to be ready for the bottle... Yesterday I went down to the HBS and picked up what little grain they...
