2011 Hop Plantations, Show Us Your Hops!

Cheers for the advice guys. Ripped one apart and got all the yellow goodness on my fingers and they had a faint hoppy aroma. Guess it's harvest time. Is it better to just pluck them off the stem or to cut a bit of it off with them? And if I want to dry most but keep some green for a brew I...

2011 Hop Plantations, Show Us Your Hops!

Hey guys My first year POR has had florwers for a while now. Most of them are pretty big and starting to get brown tips. I've been waiting for them to start smelling like hops but there's no aroma to them. Does this mean they're not ready or have I just grown shit hops?

    Whats Your Favourite Hop

Haven't brewed with many different hops yet but going off the commercial beers I like I think Cascade would have to be my favourite.

    Where Are You From ?

I thought I'd posted in this thread already but can't find it, so.... Another West Aussie brewer. Proud Rockingham local. The place has a bad rep but it's home and I love it. Originally from Anglesea, Wales. Also lived in Cairns, Fremantle, Strathfield Sydney and Westernport Victoria. (listed in...

    Free Pet Bottles- Wa

Since I changed to kegging I have a heap (86) of PET bottles I no longer require that are taking up space in my brew room. Pick up from Rockingham. Feel free to drop off a sample of your homebrew in exchange for the bottles if you're feeling generous

2011 Hop Plantations, Show Us Your Hops!

I'm excited :D My first year pride of ringwood that I planted in a pot late in the growing season has grown a load of burrs sometime in the last couple of days. It was growing very slowly until a couple of months ago when it started shooting up and got a second bine. A couple of weeks ago it...

    Council Pick Ups

One of my favourite weeks of the year. I still remember riding round with my mates when I was a kid scavenging parts for our bikes and cubby houses and whatever else we wanted to build. We used to call it scabfest. Got some pretty sweet stuff in the last few years as well.

    Carlton Draught Grain Bill?

When I saw this thread I was wondering why anybody would want to make this beer but after seeing your reasoning I'm actually thinking of looking up some beers I drink alot of (not because I like them but beacuse they have them everywhere) could be a good way to learn a bit about the different...

    Freshest Brew Ever :)

ok I know I'm probly gonna get told to do a search here but I have searched it and malting seems quite complicated to me. I know a farmer who grows malting quality grain who is willing to sling me a few bags every now and then if I can malt it and send some back his way (he's a home brewer too...

Done. I hadnt heard of most of the shows on there. Never watched Mercs show but I'll keep an eye out for it. I did enjoy his article in the last beer & brewer mag. I'll vote again on behalf of the missus and kid, I mean talk them into voting ;) when I get some free time.

2011 Hop Plantations, Show Us Your Hops!

Yeah I'm renting at the moment so all my plants are in pots for now. got some big ones put aside for when I get my hands on some more rhizomes though :)

2011 Hop Plantations, Show Us Your Hops!

Quick question, would it be worth planting a rhizome this late in the growing season? Not expecting massive growth but surely it'd be good to get some roots established in time for the next growing season.

    New Brews At Local Woolies

I know you're excited but please refrain from jacking off on the staff :P They have both white rabbits on tap at my local and I drank so much of the dark over winter. Good drop :drinks:

    Not A Fan Of Cider

I don't drink cider but a lot of my mates who don't drink beer (weird bastards) do. It does make buying rounds better because they're not asking for $12 stubbys of jack Daniels or some shit like that anymore.

Really? Mine doesn't say anything about a NRV. I went out and bought a valve to put in the line. Hope I didn't waste my money
