    Porter Idea

I knew I'd seen a post about Vanilla Porter recently. Just thought I'd post an extract recipe that I literally just racked to secondary on top of 3 split & scraped Madagascan beans. It's the first time I've bothered doing a secondary fermentation, and I didn't soak the beans in alcohol...

    Lc Bottle Recall

Awesome. I'm pretty sure I filled two empty Dreadnaught bottles with an APA last weekend. Obviously de-labelled now, so no chance of checking use by dates. My guts are thankfully still intact atm, but I'll have to laugh if it's weakened glass and I get my first ever bottle bomb...

    Responsible Service Of Alcohol

Having just completed both certificates a few weeks ago, I tend to agree with you, and the OP. The guy who was conducting both courses had been in the hospitality/pub management business for many years. During the RSA, the gigantic elephant in the room was the fact that practically everyone in...

    Brewing In 5l Demijohns

For around $15 you can grab yourself an auto-siphon. That's what I've used with my 11.5L carboy. Bottling spigot on the end of some tubing and straight into the bottles. Worthy investment if you plan on using it for a few brews.

Wheat Beer With A Dash Of Cordial.

Never tried it in my own brewing, but a mate of mine just got back from Singapore where he said he saw a beer menu almost exclusively comprised of different kinds of 'flavoured' Hoegaarden. I personally thought this was a pretty obscure find in Asia. He said he tasted one flavoured with some...

    10 Litre Coopers Real Ale

That was sort of my thinking as well, but something about it didn't quite sit right with me. From the sounds of your brew I should be pretty glad I checked on here first!

    10 Litre Coopers Real Ale

Great, thanks Wolfy - looks like that might be the go. Now I can put the spare carboy to better (and hopefully tastier) use, and feed a bunch of starters to boot :)

    10 Litre Coopers Real Ale

Thanks for the replies. @Lodan - It's about 60g of leftover crystal i wanted to use up Using it for starters isn't a bad idea. There's no risk of the starters taking on any of the flavour of the Cooper's kit and imparting it to any beer I pitch it into, is there? And if I'm not using it all at...

    10 Litre Coopers Real Ale

G'day all, In the hope of moving to AG sooner rather than later, I want to use up the lonely last tin of Coopers Real Ale goop in the cupboard. I don't really want to waste too many other ingredients on this, since I've brewed a couple of recipes using this tin in the past and have found that...

Free Fridge - Panania (sw Sydney)

Hi Jez, I'd certainly like to take it off your hands, but do you reckon you could give me the dimensions of the fridge before I commit? Space is limited at my joint and SWMBO would freak if I brought it home and it didn't fit. Cheers

    A Few General Questions

As far as priming goes, try searching "bulk priming with a syringe" on this forum or Google. When I first started out I found this method great as it gives you total control over your priming rate, without the hassle of racking to secondary. :icon_cheers:

    Morgans Royal Oak Amber Ale!

I did something very similar a while back, except using Willamette hops. Mine only got down to a stable 1015 after 10 days at around 22C. Ended up as quite a nice drop, but perhaps could have used a bit more hops for balance in my opinion.

Leaking Fermenter Spigot - Help Required!

Well, you wouldn't believe it. I took a wrench to it and tightened it some more and it appears to have stopped leaking. I feel kinda stupid, but on my last brew I tightened it by hand with no dramas. Dunno why it would be som much more difficult this time round. Anyway, my question now is have...

Leaking Fermenter Spigot - Help Required!

Thanks all for the replies so far. Already tried the blu tack and it just seeped straight through. I've also tightened it within an inch of its life...I've even loosened it slightly in case i was over-tightening it. I even tried masking tape as a last resort, all to no avail. I tried...

Leaking Fermenter Spigot - Help Required!

if you mean the black rubber ring thats meant to seal it, then yes it's on there. is there meant to be another washer? Its only my second brew, so I'm still getting to know all the equipment.
