    Hello from NZ :)

There are also a fair few of us here in Australia that are from the Land of the long white cloud. That why we're all obsessed with NZ hops :) I first got into brewing back in Rotovegas almost 30 years ago. . . (hell that sounds like I;m getting old)

    'battle Of The Toucans'

I reckon the best beers I have brewed to date are Toucans. Should get into BIAB or something to progress in the craft, but who's got time? : :D Anyway- the one I am drinking now is going down a real treat. 1x Home Brands Lager 1x Home Brands Draught 15g Cascade dry hopped after 3 days 10g...

    Pet Bottle Over Carbing

Doesn't have to stay in fridge, but will taste way better for it. Best place to condition the beer is in the fridge. I only usually leave it out long enough to carb up and then throw the whole batch into the fridge. Lucky I have a big beer fridge :)

    Pet Bottle Over Carbing

Yeah- will be fine to unscrew and let some gas out. Only if you let stuff IN will there be any infection problems. Doesn't sound like there'll be much entering the bottle when the cap is loosened :) Are the bottles refrigerated? If not, stick them in the fridge- cooler beer allows more CO2 to be...

    Orange And Coriander Lager

I just wrapped them in a tough plastic bag and put them on a benchtop. Then crushed them under the base of a good beer glass :) Rolling pin would do the trick also I'd reckon. You're just cracking the outer husk, not powdering them

OK, You're Here And You Brew, What Else Do You Do?

I know what YOU'RE doing: working hard to grow replacement organs (kidneys at first) to sell to AHB'ers who've deep-sixed their own :)

    Epic Pale Ale Clone

Can't help with the recipe- whether it looks right or not I'd have no clue. I do know what Epic tastes like though- and I'd only be too happy to critique it once you have it brewed :chug: Used to make a habit of having an Epic every time I went to the Cock and Bull in the Tron (NZ). They did...

    Continuing Jokes Thread

My 2 all-time favourite jokes: q: What's green and eats meat? a: Syphilis Little Red Riding Hood is carrying her little basket of goodies, and skipping through the forest on the way to Granny's House, when out from behind the trees jumps the Big Bad Wolf. "Little Red Riding Hood, Little Red...

Wheat Beer With Hint Of Mandarin

When I did a "Hoegaarden" style beer (Kits and bits), I used the zester on 2 large oranges and it was lubberly. I just added it at the start of fermentation. For a "hint of mandarin" i'd probably go for 2 mandarins zested? You're just after the orange coloured bit of the rind, stop when you hit...

    Crystal Vs Caramunich

Great place :) Was up there last week with the kids. Woorim rocks May have to find out where BribieG lives so I can pop in on the way next time. I need to see what BIAB is all about. . . .

Epic Pale Ale - First Taste

This stuff is even better on tap. I used to go to the Cock and Bull in north Hamilton NZ when I lived there still, and EPIC on tap was a real eye-opener :) Mind you i liked all their beers.

The Greatest Beer Of All Time!

Best Beer Ever? Thats a totally situational thing IMO- best Ale in the world falls short if all you want is a lawnmower quaffer coz its 50C in the shade eh? My top beers ever: 1) Ice cold Heineken on the banks of the Grand Canal in Venice (accompanied by genuine Maguerita Pizza) 2) Amstel on...

    Wheat Beer

I drank my first one tonight. The WheatBeer I did was the Brewcraft kit (came with the Whispering Wheat kit, plus 2x Wheat DME and the coriander seed and an alternative yeast). I boiled the kit with the zest of 2 oranges and the cracked coriander before straining it into the fermenter. When I...

    What Hop?

OK. Knew I should have made myself clearer (almost trolling to leave it so open) But am at work so shouldn't be on anyway :) At present I am making mainly lager style beers (not true lagers- QLD is too hot to brew that cold at present) and the brew I have down at the moment is a wheat beer. But...
