    The Simplest And Best Cleaner

Just a comment for those using iodophor. If you want to make your iodophor go even further just make up 1-2L of your sanitizer solution and stick that in your fermenter and shake. It will foam and coat everything. There is no need to fully fill your fementer with 25L of sanitising solution. I...

    Smoked Malt

That's the kind of smokiness I'd like to try in the next smoked beer if I was to give it a go again. I just associate the beech smoke with bacon and ham far too much, but the peat sounds more to my liking.

    Smoked Malt

Ha ha. That is a bold beer my friend. So it's smokey? ;) I wonder if the smoke kind of hits a threshold limit where it doesn't appear to get any smokier past a certain point? If you follow. Just going by the 15% beer I had I would have though 100% would just be blow your head off smoke, but...

    Smoked Malt

Holy sh!t 100% smoked malt  I'd steer well clear of that beer, you can keep it to yourself. How does it taste from the fermenter?

    Smoked Malt

I haven't bought malt in a while but Warren suggested that you can't get hoepfner anymore, and I can't say I've seen it either. So that will probably cross that one off the list. I know the hoepfner one was beech smoked malt, not sure if weyermann is the same. I've tasted beers with up to 15%...

    Temperature Control

Honestly, I don't know the exact answer here so take it for what it's worth but my understanding is that these 2 door split fridge/freezers run off the one compressor-so therefore you can't actually control the two parts independently. Your fridge may be different but the one I had was as I...

    Alumininium Vs Ss Kettle

Yep, I think you have far more things to worry about than boiling a few batch of beer in your aluminium pot. Who here smokes? There is a whole lot of factors that come into play throughout your entire lifetime. Edit: By the way this reply isn't meant to fire up the eternal Alu/Alz...

    Urn Vs Kettle & Burner

Unless you happen to find a suitable urn cheap at a garage sale etc that was a suitable size, I wouldn't spend the money on buying a new urn for this purpose. JMHO but I really think you would be better served with a good sized pot and burner combo as you mentioned (might as well make it 60L+)...

    Mashmaster Mill Design

One thing that seems to have been overlooked is diameter of the rollers, forgive me if someone did mention it. If you want a really good mill you want large diameter rollers, and preferable a mild knurl. This in my opinion is far more crucial than whether they are stainless or not, I have mild...

    Suitable Burner?

Just talk to the guys at the burner place, they'll line you up with the correct regulator and hose to suit. FWIW you don't need any particularly special hose (eg. stainless braid etc) as most of the hoses at a BBQ shop will work (they are generally orange) and are rated to 2.6MPa, just be aware...

Which Is The Correct Temperature Reading?

It takes a long time for the temp of 23L of beer to change. The air temp however can swing quite quickly. You get a yoyo effect of temp in the air yet the temp of the liquid respond much slower and doesn't yo yo anywhere near as much.

    Suitable Burner?

As stated and also in the threads either Gameco, Auscrown, Globe Imports or Grain and grape will sort you out with a reg to suit. IMO you need at least 30psi, mine goes to 60psi. Prices vary between each place, but generally buying the whole kit from one place works out around the same price...

Any ideas on how would be the most effective way to remove any possible nasties from a SS vessel? I'm not saying that it did or didn't have nasties but given the properties of SS (ie. non porous etc) you should really be able to get anything out of it wouldn't you think? And a change of rubber...

You bloody little Anzac, you beauty! :beerbang: I'd be removing those vessel to the safety of your car asap, then home right away. I'm sure it would be an OH&S issue to leave them at work because those are too heavy to lift (lifting injury), they are a trip hazard and could quite possibly be...

    Nylex Food Grade Hose

So $2.50 per meter. Makes it pretty inexpensive hose then, but just out of interest do you have to buy a whole 10m or can you buy it in shorter lengths. I was just thinking if you only need 2m or so that puts you in the price range (expense wise) for some nice silicone hose @ $12.50p/m...

    Nylex Food Grade Hose

I suspect the hose will be a PVC hose, but I'm really not certain on that. How much is it, and how much do you need? On the quick diconnects, I think I use Nylex branded ones. They are all brass (except the oring and a couple of small plastic bits associated with the locking mechanism) and have...

Cookery Corner - Beer Can Chicken

I'll draw up a plan of the inside. Really is pretty simple inside though, not much more than racks, a water bowl and an element. As for true cold smoking, no I haven't rigged or tried to rig a rack for cold smoking. It might take a fair bit of modification to make it work with this one (if your...

Cookery Corner - Beer Can Chicken

Interesting this popped up again, I was planning on trying the Beer can chicken recipe in the very near future in my newly built smoker. This was my latest construction project. I built a hot smoker out of an 18G keg to start doing american style BBQ, I've smoked chicken pieces and sausages so...
