Made cider out of kellybrook apples

I went to the Kellybrook cider festival with the intention of buying a cube of their juice to make cider with. After sampling the juice I wasn't very impressed so didn't buy any. The juice was very bland, watery (I didn't measure it but assume a low gravity) and very acidic. Unfortunately I...

Triple batch BIAB in a 50l keggle?

If you do a sparge you should be OK. Do a search for Maxi-BIAB, which contains a spreadsheet for doing exactly what you are talking about. Just remember that your efficiency will probably drop when doing a high-gravity mash.

    Belgian Breweries

I tried to visit a number of breweries while I was there last year. Most of the breweries I wanted to go to only allow tours for large groups so you can't have a tour if you are on your own or a couple. In the end I went to Cantillon, DeDolle, Halve Maan, and In de Vrede (the Cafe associated...

    Great Australasian Beer SpecTAPular

Did anyone go to the Friday evening session last year? If so, how busy was it? I went to the Friday arvo session last year and it was wonderfully quiet. I may not be able to attend that session this year so was wondering if the Friday evening session is likely to be very busy.

    Cider Apples Around Melbourne

Make sure you let us know if you are successful in finding cider apples as I think there are quite a few of us who would be interested in getting some. My cider this year was made from road-side apples and I have no idea what the varieties were. I'd be keen to compare it to real cider apples to...

    Sour beers

I'm pretty sure Brett will produce acetic acid in the presence of oxygen. My last 100% Brett Lambicus beer definitely has a bit of balsamic vinegar aroma and flavour.

Bacchus Brewing Co. Tap Takeover @ The Alehouse Project

Had a great night yesterday. Enjoyed all of Ross and Bill's creations. The London Porter on handpump was the standout for me. Had a good chat with Ross and he was very accommodating with details of the recipes for each beer. I recommend you get along this evening if you can.

    Supercheap Beer glasses, Melb

#Fairfield boatshed is getting rid of old 285 ml beer glasses for 30 cents each. There were about 100-150 when I was there this morning and they are all in good condition. They are the typical pot style like the one here...

Taking Homebrew On A Plane In Luggage?

I have taken glass bottles of homebrew in my checked-in luggage several times without problems. I haven't tried PET bottles though so can't help you there. With respect to Ol' Wobblys' post, you can't take more than 100ml liquid in your carry-on luggage so I wouldn't try taking 5L of homebrew on...

    Fed Square Microbrewery Showcase

I just tried to buy tickets for the Fed Square Microbrewery showcase this Thursday but there don't seem to be any tickets available. Does anyone know if there will be door sales as they have done previously?

    Free Cluster Rhizome

I have a large 2nd year cluster rhizome to give away. It's currently in a pot and has just started shooting bines in all directions. Pick up only from Reservoir, VIC.

Single Vessel Electric Brew Rig Build

If you mix aluminium and stainless you will get galvanic corrosion of the aluminium. The severity of the corrosion will depend on how much stainless there is relative to the amount of aluminium you have. BUT, if you isolate the stainless from the aluminium, i.e. there is no physical contact...

    Tipping In The Usa

I'm going to Colorado in Oct and will probably spend a fair bit of time in various bars, brewpubs and breweries. What's the etiquette for tipping at these sorts of places if I'm not having a meal?

    Cheap Used Faucets Wanted

I'm after 3 super-cheap faucets, with shanks, nipples, handles and everything else needed to connect to beer line and mount through some 12mm ply. If you've recently upgraded or just have some old ones lying around then I'd be happy to take them from you....for the right price. I don't need...
