    Big W 20 litre pot

Yes. Many have started BIAB (brew in a bag) with a 20L pot. Can do 10L batches comfortably on a stove top.

    Pre-Boiling water?

Make sure you have the correct/specialised filter to remove chloramine as ordinary carbon filters don't. Don't know what the cost difference is between the two is though

    Pre-Boiling water?

Chemist warehouse has 100% ascorbic acid for $15 for 125g. Considering the usage is approx 0.2g per batch as above, it is quite cheap as well (around 3c a brew). Do need scales to 0.01g though. Whilst there is a best before, keeping dry and air tight it will last quite some time. Will also look...

    Pre-Boiling water?

Also depends what your water authority uses. If it is chloramine (more stable than chlorine apparently and a lot use it) boiling won't get rid of it. However ascorbic acid (vitamin C) does which is available at the chemist in unflavoured powdered form. I believe the dosage is to match the...

    Missing Wort

And 16.5L of hot liquid (+90) is around 15.8L of room temp liquid (that shrinkage thing warra was on about). Shrinkage from boiling to room temp (20C) is around 96%. So the volumes post mash and post boil when cooled (to compare to initial volume) are actually less than the volumes above. On...

    THe Famous Doctor S

Hi BBB, There are several iterations of this recipe as he tweaks it along the way. None are bad, just slightly different. As for brewing software, start with IanH BIAB spreadsheet if you have excel. https://aussiehomebrewer.com/threads/biab-beer-designer-spreadsheet.55955/ Can select no chill...

Commercial processes to make 10 year old whisky in weeks?

I don't take the show seriously - hence the "appeared" in quotations. Will watch it if its on to see the f ups. Usually most of them staged.

Commercial processes to make 10 year old whisky in weeks?

Saw an episode of Moonshiners on Fox recently where they converted the moonshine to "whisky' by running electrical currents through wood staves to speed up the process. Took 24 hours from memory - after making the moonshine. "Appeared" to be a reasonable end product - had good colour, could only...

    Crown urn BIAB issue

I tie a bit of cooking string to it through the holes and then on to the handle to stop the end falling in.
